Individuals within the Data Engineering role work closely with customers, vendors, business analysts and application development project teams to understand the business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality data solutions. These solutions must be aligned with business and IT strategies and in compliance with the organization’s architectural standards. Data Engineers are involved in the full systems life cycle and therefore are responsible for designing, coding, testing, implementing and supporting data platforms and processes that are delivered on time and within budget. Responsibilities may also include participation in component and interface design, technology planning, product evaluation, advanced testing processes and buy vs. build recommendations. Individuals also provide input to project plans related to their responsibilities. They ensure data availability, integrity and compliance by performing data cleansing and data validations. They provide data that is congruent, synchronized, and reliable and information that is readily accessible by the user. They analyze and develop logical and physical data models in support of corporate and customer information systems requirements. When data related system problems occur, they also perform root-cause analysis and recommend or execute corrective action.
Data Engineer professionals understand the methodologies and technologies that manage the flow of data within and between technology systems and business functions/operations. They identify opportunities to reduce data redundancy, trends in data uses and single sources of data. Knowledge of current and emerging IT products, services and processes is required. Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Works on complex, major or highly visible tasks and projects as a project team member, sometimes as a project lead.
- Works with business and vendor partners, and delivery leads to determine business data intelligence needs.
- Analyzes program needs and translates them into big data, data warehousing, and/or data mart requirements.
- Creates and implements detailed specifications for metadata repository solutions.
- Defines, documents, and maintains all data definitions, data sources, business meaning and usage of information
- Promotes the principles of data resource management and data sharing, reuse of databases and single source data strategy. Leverages master data as needed by business processes.
- Creates a framework for representing the data elements including the entities, relationships and attributes.
- Recognizes and resolves conflicts between models, ensuring that data models are consistent with the enterprise model (e.g., entity names, relationships and definitions).
- Identifies problematic areas and conducts research to determine the best course of action to correct the data, identify, analyze and interpret trends and patterns in complex datasets
- Develops data design approaches based on business requirements
- May provide technical leadership for the definition and development of test plans and system documentation
- Removes technical impediments for project team
- Optimizes platform performance.
- Assists in development of development standards and works to ensure adherence to standards by conducting technical reviews of code
- Supports use case development by identifying and training project teams on Azure best practices, and creating Azure development environments for project teams.
- Object Oriented Programming proficiency using .Net technology stack.
- Knowledge and experience in .Net Framework 4.6 and above, .Net Core and .Net Standard.
- Knowledge and experience in Serverless Azure Compute Services such as Azure Functions, Logic Apps, App service, Service Bus and Web Jobs.
- Knowledge and experience in Azure Storage such as Blob Storage, Data Lake Store, Cosmos DB, Azure SQL
- Knowledge and exposures to cloud or on premises MPP data warehousing systems (Azure SQL Data Warehouse)
- Demonstrated knowledge of data management concepts as well as an outstanding command of the SQL standard.
- Experience in using and tuning relational databases (Azure SQL Data warehouse and SQL DB, MS SQL Server, or other RDBMS is a plus).
- Knowledge and understanding of Active Directory concepts.
- Knowledge and understanding of data and technology security and access control principles and implementations.
- Knowledge and experience with Azure Data Factory (Informatica is a plus) as an ETL environment.
- Experience with Lambda and Kappa architecture implementations
- Experience with Data Lake implementations and design patterns
- Experience designing, developing and testing applications using proven or emerging technologies, in a variety of technologies and environments.
- Self driven, ability to work on multiple tasks and adapt to change.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication (written & verbal) skills.
- Ability to comfortably work with senior business leaders and effectively partner with thought leaders across the enterprise.
- Ability to lead other Data Engineers and Developers on larger initiatives.
- Successful candidate must be able to work with controlled technology in accordance with US export control law.
- Experience with Storm /Spark Streaming and with streaming concepts and patterns is a plus.
- Knowledge of NoSql data management systems (CosmosDB, MongoDB, HBase, Cassandra) is a plus.
- Azure certifications are a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Management Information system, or related field
