The NISSC II Cyber team supports all facets of cybersecurity and cyber defense to ensure the accurate, timely, and unambiguous warning and attack assessment of Air, Missile and Space threats to our Nation—including visibility of National Command Authority (NCA) leaders and the President of the United States!


As a member of our elite team you will be engaged in one of many facets of cybersecurity from cyber and system requirements definition, acquisition and compliance validation, to systems security engineering design, development and integration, and/or the creation and maintenance of authorization and assessment documentation necessary to ensure our mission-critical systems maintain approval to operate.


Our mission and your contributions are vital to our National Security, and include direct support to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), Northern Command (NORTHCOM), Homeland Defense, Strategic Command (STRATCOM) and United States Space Force (USSF) Air, Missile, and Space Warning missions supported from Cheyenne Mountain, Offutt AFB, Peterson AFB, Schriever AFB, Vandenberg AFB and forward user and sensor sites around the world.


Coordinates and provides technical guidance and leadership to a group engaged in supporting technical computer system design and operations. Coordinates and reviews work of others for techniques, procedures, and technical approach. Reviews the building and/or debugging of hardware and software to identify and correct difficult problems using technically advanced, problem-solving skills. Develops, modifies, and maintains complex computer system procedures. Interprets and analyzes processing anomalies for computer systems and takes corrective action.
Oversees all test and installation of network/system connections, configures and debugs network/system equipment. Prepares and critiques technical reports and memoranda. Assists management in defining computer system requirements and upgrades. Authorizes the selection of new computer equipment including hardware and software. Coordinates and schedules system upgrades and maintenance. Typically requires an AS degree in a computer field and 8 years of related experience. Progressive and relevant education, training, and/or certification(s) may be substituted for a portion of the degree and experience requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide cybersecurity engineering services and support to the Sustainment Maintenance and Modification Services (SMMS) program as directed by the Systems Security Engineering Chief Product Owner (CPO)
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers, software engineers, software assurance engineers, systems integrators and test teams supporting the development, testing, installation, and deployment of cyber-compliant solutions
  • Support the establishment, installment, and enforcement of security architectures; integrate new architectural features into existing infrastructures; design cybersecurity architectural artifacts; perform architectural analysis of cyber security features and ensure the successful integration of cyber-compliant solutions into system “as is” and “to be” technical baselines
  • Provide systems security engineering recommendations, develop cybersecurity assessment plans and cybersecurity test plans to ensure proper system hardening and to resolve/overcome integration and testing issues
  • Assess and mitigate system security threats/risks throughout the Operations, Maintenance (O&M) and Sustainment life cycles
  • Contribute to the security planning, assessment, risk analysis, risk management, authorization and assessment and cybersecurity awareness activities for all facets of the Missile Warning, Missile Defense and Space systems and networking operations
  • Ensure system security needs are established and maintained for O&M and Sustainment upgrades, operations development, security requirements definition, security risk assessment, systems analysis, systems design, security test and evaluation, assessment and authorization, systems hardening, vulnerability, testing and scanning, and configuration management
  • Work within an Agile methodology to complete assigned stories and tasks to meet program feature and increment milestones and operational fielding timelines
  • Support deployment activities in the Test Development Facility (TDF) and/or onsite as necessary
  • Assesses system vulnerabilities and generates monthly Vulnerability Status Reports/Cybersecurity Verification Results as required

Here’s What You’ll Need:
  • Bachelor’s degree with 4-8 years of related experience; Master’s degree with 2-4 years related experience, or 8+ years of related experience in lieu of a degree
  • Active DoD Secret clearance with the ability to attain/maintain a Top Secret clearance


  • DoD 8140/8570 IAT Level II (Security+CE, GSEC or similar)
  • Security engineering skills with a working knowledge of cybersecurity technology and DoD/Federal cybersecurity policy (i.e., CNSSI 1253, DoDI 8500.01, NIST SP 800-53, etc.).


  • Hands-on experience with Windows and Unix operating systems
  • Understanding of networking, subnetting, firewalls, NAT, ACL's, etc
  • Experience with MS Office suite of tools (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Familiarity or experience with Agile software development methodologies, i.e. Scrum, Kanban, SAFe


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance
  • ACAS/ Nessus / Security Center
  • STIG/SCAP compliance scanning and implementation
  • HBSS (ePolicy Orchestrator, McAfee Antivirus, HIPS, Policy Auditor, RSD) Prefer DoD HBSS Administrator training
  • SPLUNK (Or Equivalent SEIM / Log Aggregation experience)
  • Experience programming in C, C++, C#, Ruby, Perl, Python, SQL
  • Proficiency in writing, editing, executing scripts on Windows, Linux, UNIX systems is highly desired
  • Familiarity with RMF and eMASS a plus
  • Familiarity with the NORAD-NORTHCOM and United State Space Force (USSF) Missile Warning and Space Surveillance/Situational Awareness missions

Physical Requirements
Requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk (90%). Requires sitting at a computer terminal for long periods of time (90%). There is a possibility that due to parking availability and location of work area walking moderate to long distances can sometimes be required.

Work Environment
Inside office/cubicle environment. Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers and all levels of management (100%).

Equipment and Machines
Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, copier, and other general office equipment (100%). Ability to conduct evaluation of third and fourth generation or current state of the art computer hardware and software and its ability to support specific requirements, interfacing with other equipment and systems.

Attendance
Attendance is critical. Work hours are normally 8 hours per day and 5 days per week, Monday through Friday. Being prompt is important to provide continuous and on-going service to customers. Attendance is important to maintain continuity of service. Work outside of normal duty hours may be required with as little as one-hour advance notice. Overtime is infrequent, but important when required (1%).

Other Essential Functions
Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to interface with individuals at all levels of the organization. Must be able to obtain unescorted access to work areas. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. IAT Level II certification is required. The minimum of an interim Secret level DoD Security Clearance is required.
