General Purpose/Summary :
This position will support the Senior Program Manager - Mathematics in courseware development, maintenance and staffing related to specific courses within the CTY Mathematics program.

An overview of courses this position may manage:
Courses offered are from grades 3 through fourth year math major courses. The math department is organized in three cohorts, with one assistant program manager for each of the three cohorts. The assistant program managers work together with the senior program manager to create consistency and appropriate scaffolding throughout the curricular offerings, which are aligned with Quality Matters and Common Core standards.

This position will manage cohort 1.

Cohort 1: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra 2 and related enrichment courses

Cohort 2: Elementary and Enrichment courses, grades 3-8 academic courses, competitive math courses, and chess

Cohort 3: Pre-Calculus and above through Complex analysis, Real Analysis, and Introduction to Abstract Math

Your Role as an Assistant Program Manager

This role supports the design and implementation of the courseware, assists on projects developing and maintaining a course of curriculum with the scope and rigor appropriate for CTY's excelling students. The Assistant Program Manager will take ownership and responsibility for a subset of courses within Mathematics, reviewing courses against national standards and monitoring the success of the implementation of the curriculum. Working with the Senior Program Manager, identify and implement useful areas of professional development. As needed, handle student and parent issues with professionalism and care for our student's learning objectives. The Assistant Program Manager will work collaboratively with the Senior Program Manager and Assistant Program Managers in leading the mathematics team and taking on special projects as needed, including working to create a high performing team of full-time and part-time employees to deliver a consistently high-quality program.

Responsibilities : Manage curriculum, staffing, and operations for one cohort within the mathematics department.

Curriculum Development and Maintenance

Be responsible for a sub-set of courses within a subject area.
Develop and maintain courseware aligned to accepted best practices in both online courseware standards (e.g. NSQ, Quality Matters, State standards) and gifted learners (NAGC).
Using a continuous improvement model, analyze Learning Management System (LMS) data and student outcomes data, review and enhance course materials for courses in your area of responsibility.
Respond to and fix errors in courses.
Review, update, and test courses each session in test-server environment. Manage others performing similar tasks.
Work with department production teams to develop achievable and measurable course development projects and manage team member (and possibly external vendors) to complete work to JHU quality and rigor standards.
Ensure courses, tests, quizzes and associated materials meet industry accessibility standards for students with disabilities.
Work with project teams to set due dates and course/project release schedules. Once set, manage teams and accountability to accomplish due dates.
Help identify and support any required course improvements to maintain academic integrity.

Staffing Support and Ongoing Professional Development:
Oversee full-time supervisors, and part-time/casual instructors to ensure that all team members are providing students and families with an academic experience of quality and rigor.
Participate in the hiring, training of staff supporting courses in your area.
Review instructor training guides and course videos for updating when necessary.
Manage direct reports, implement accountability systems to highlight and manage possible issues, monitoring for satisfactory performance, and provide constructive criticism and feedback for product improvement.
Ensure supervisors are proactively engaged in the support and review of all instructors' work.
Ensure supervisors are monitoring that instructors have provided appropriate responses and feedback to parents and students. Perform similar for any instructors reporting directly to you.
Ensure supervisors are reviewing instructors' recorded sessions to ensure quality in their work. Perform similar for any instructors reporting directly to you.
Support direct reports with appropriate professional development opportunities across all team levels.
Stay up to date in online learning developments in general, as well as specific attention to your subject area and the implementation of subject specific approaches to online instruction.
Review Course Completion Documents for any instructors reporting directly to you. Ensure proper level of feedback is provided to the student and family throughout enrollment.
Be able to step in as a teacher for courses in your responsibility area.

Student and Family Communications

Liaison with CTY families as needed.
Respond to inquiries from parents and students around placement or customer service related issues.
Where appropriate, answer emails or phone calls from parents to give them more information about courseware.
Provide feedback on course placements to parents regarding their students.
Take into consideration parents' and students' feedback to continue to improve the program and Instructors.

Working across JHU and CTY

Work with CTY and Johns Hopkins School of Education researchers in development and support of research projects. Includes making changes to courses to support research, monitoring experimental instructional models and student performance, etc.

Minimum Requirements :
Bachelor's degree in a related field is required. Master's degree is strongly preferred.
At least three years related experience in the role of direct instruction, curriculum development, courseware development or similar educational or product development experience. Additional education may be substituted for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Experience developing content for LMS delivery such as Moodle and H5P highly desired.
Experience managing or supervising an instructional or curriculum development staff.
Effective problem-solving and critical-thinking skills; ability to predict, identify, and resolve issues in a timely and effective manner.
Excellent attention to detail.
Ability to work well with other team members.

Required Special Skills and Knowledge :
Strong working knowledge of grade school mathematics courses. Prior experience building curriculum in an online environment strongly preferred.
Background of instruction or development in a learning management system.
Experience in online educational technology, such as Moodle, H5P, Zoom, etc.
Experience managing and motivating a geographically diverse and virtual workforce.

Physical Requirements for the Job:
Ability to sit in a normal seated position for extended periods of time
Dexterity of hands to operate a computer keyboard, mouse pad and other office machinery
The incumbent will be required to communicate regularly via telephone and face to face with internal and external customers and must be able to exchange accurate and timely information in these settings
Position also requires a degree of mobility common to working in an office environment; bending, kneeling or standing during events and presentations may be required.

Degree of independent action performed on the job :
Work independently as well as with production team to ensure all deadlines are met.
Works closely with subject area Program Manager implementing their objectives.

Supervisory Responsibility :
Manages team of 3-6 full time staff members, as well as group of 50+ casual employees and/or contractors
