CT Technologist - NightsHours: Nights -11:00pm - 7:00am
  • Monday thru Friday

Job Summary:

Performs a variety of Computed Tomography procedures and duties under the direction of a qualified physician, technical specialist, and CT Operations Manager using prescribed levels of ionizing radiation. Performs all activities according to federal, state, local, and hospital policies and procedures to a variety of patients ranging from newborn to geriatric in age. Operates imaging equipment to produce quality diagnostic images of specified body parts. Able to insert and remove IV's.
Essential Functions:
  • Adheres to department/hospital policies and procedures in performing duties and assignments
  • Performs daily quality control of equipment. Reports any malfunction to appropriate supervisor.
  • Transports patients and helps with lifting of patients as needed. Safely transfer patients to and from imaging table
  • Performs computer reconstructions accurately and in a timely manner
  • Records patient exams in electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Cleans and stocks imaging rooms and other areas as assigned.
  • Draws up, measures and prepares contrast medium for administration, as directed. Administers contrast media in accordance with policies.
  • Obtains patients history by personal interview and chart review.
  • Provides emergency "on-call" coverage twenty-four hours per days, as assigned.
  • Performs venous punctures and starts IV lines in patients as necessary.
  • Verifies patient identification by arm bands or outpatient requisitions and Date of Birth.
  • Verifies appropriateness of ordered exam by requisition, chart, attending physician and radiologist, when necessary.
  • Prepares rooms for procedures. Prepares patient for procedures practicing infection control techniques and sterile techniques, as needed. Assists radiologist during procedures.
  • Educates patient about procedure to be performed and keeps patient informed throughout procedure.
  • Performs patient procedures in a manner which assures the least amount of radiation exposure to the patient and employee in accordance with the ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) standards set by the radiation safety committee and observed by the RSA, health physicist, and/or supervisor
  • Attends to the physical, emotional and educational needs of the patient within the technologist’s scope of care. Provides bedpans, urinals, emesis basis, mobility assistance and other support as needed.
  • Answers patient, physician, nurse and family members' questions and solves scheduling and other problems, as required.
  • Performs imaging exams on inpatient and outpatient, adult, pediatric and geriatric populations with in the Main department and Emergency department.

Job Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of radiographic positioning and radiographic equipment
  • Knowledge of anatomy, cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, medical terminology.
  • Effective interpersonal and communications skills both verbal and written.
  • Maintains a high standard of professionalism at all times.
  • Operates all equipment according to appropriate operating manuals and department policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates knowledge and proper utilization of all imaging support equipment
  • Obtains pertinent history verbally and/or from patient chart or requisition
  • Maintains patient safety at all time while in department
  • Assures adequate supervision and assistance when necessary, does not leave patient alone on table
  • Operates EMR systems accurately and completely, avoiding documentation error
  • Operates pressure injector accurately and safely
  • Participates in continuing education programs as dictated by Joint Commission, MA licensing board and hospital/department policy.
  • Adheres to "Code of Ethics" for radiologic technologists as defined by ARRT.
Physical Environment:

Duties may involve general cleaning with exposure to dirt, odors, cramped quarters, etc.; or include patient care responsibilities with subsequent exposure to human waste, or other unpleasant elements.

Qualifications:
Education Graduated from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.

Experience
  • Minimum of 1-year Radiology experience- required
  • Knowledge of the special needs and behaviors of adult and older adult patients preferred
Licences, Certifications, and/or Registrations (if applicable)
  • Licensed by the State of Mass Radiation Control Board
  • ARRT Registered- RT ( R) or RT (N)
  • ARRT Registry in Computed Tomography- preferred
    • If no CT License at time of hire, Technologist has one year to obtain CT License
  • CPR certified
