The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has set ambitious goals to ensure that every child - in every school and every neighborhood - has access to a world-class learning experience from birth resulting in graduation from high school to college and career-ready. The Office of Safety and Security serves as the critical department to partner with school principals, other CPS staff members and families to ensure that all schools strive towards the goal of establishing a safe environment for our students.
The Crossing Guard Regional Team Leader for the Office of Safety and Security is charged with supporting the Office of Safety and Security in achieving this mission. This position reports directly to the Crossing Guard District Safety Manager and is accountable for the following responsibilities:
- Supervises a team of crossing guards who are responsible for supporting the flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic at assigned intersections to support children and families who are traveling to and from school.
- Manages work assignments and monitors attendance to ensure that crossing guards are in compliance with designated responsibilities at assigned intersections at designated times in appropriate uniform.
- Assigns substitutes as necessary when crossing guards are absent
- Trains staff on proper traffic control and pedestrian crossing procedures
- Conducts regular field visits to monitor program and delivers coaching related to performance of crossing guards
- Administers performance evaluations for assigned staff
- Maintains timekeeping records and authorizes attendance leave as consistent with CPS guidelines
- Analyze attendance and incident reports and prepares regular reports for management and makes recommendations to support continuous improvement of the program
- Serves as primary contact for school administrators, families, community stakeholders, Chicago Police, CPS safety staff and CPS Student Safety Center in regards to assignments, complaints and incidents
Experience:
- 3 years of leadership and management experience in developing leadership capacity in staff or team members.
- Successful experience working in safety management is preferred.
- Must possess a valid State of Illinois Drivers License

- Ability to manage and interact with staff (at all levels) in a fast paced environment, sometimes under pressure, remaining flexible, proactive and resourceful with a high level of professionalism.
- Project management, analytical and organizational skills
- Strong communications skills; bi-lingual capabilities is a plus
- Adept at managing partnerships between and among external agencies and key stakeholders
- Strong sense of integrity in all aspects of how they conduct themselves.
- Demonstrates a sense of urgency in accomplishing goals and objectives to ensure success
- Pursues and implements innovative ideas and methods, remains committed to seeking out and sharing current research and evidence-based best practices.

- Be willing and able to work with colleagues within and outside of the Office and provide back-up and support to others within the Office
- Must be able to type and have high proficiency in the use of personal computers, including but not limited to Microsoft suite, especially MS Word, MS Powerpoint and MS Excel and Google applications
- Strong work ethic with a willingness to work extended hours, especially in early morning hours and occasional weekends to manage schedules and complete projects with condensed timeline
Residency Requirement:
As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and must maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.
