The Fresno County Department of Public Health is currently accepting applications for COVID Vaccinator.
The COVID Vaccinator classification is primarily oriented to giving vaccinations as part of a vaccination team under the supervision of the Department of Public Health. Responsibilities include the administration of immunizing agents and treatment of emergency reactions.
Please note: The eligible list established for this recruitment may be used to fill COVID Vaccinator extra-help positions throughout the county. Temporary (extra-help) employees are paid an hourly rate for actual hours worked, are not entitled to benefits, do no obtain permanent status and serve at the will of the department head.
Positions in this classification are in Medical Group III – Heavy Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require heavy physical effort using arms, legs, back and trunk in frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing (or offering resistance equivalent to) over 25 pounds. Generally, considerable bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, as well as standing and walking are involved. Physical stamina is usually required and explosive strength using bursts of energy may be required, depending upon specific position assignments.

Provides basic hygienic and nursing care to clients.- Performs injections of biological immunizations for pediatric and adult patients.
- Observes and assesses client’s condition and behavior; reports significant changes to the supervisor and/or makes referrals as necessary.
- May complete internal and official immunization records.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of:
- Proper immunization techniques of biological immunizations;
- Medical equipment necessary to administer immunizations and treat emergency reactions;
- Medical terminology and record keeping practices;
- Uses and effects of immunizing agents and prescribed medications.
- Administer immunizing agents and medications necessary in the event of an emergency reaction to such agents;
- Identify and be responsive to the health needs of clients;
- Accurately follow both oral and written instructions;
- Organize and prioritize duties and manage time effectively;
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with people of various educational, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds;
- Work effectively under pressure and in difficult or emergency situations;
- Operate a computer in the completion of assignments;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships at all organizational levels, as well as with other agencies and the public;
- Demonstrate and maintain a high degree of initiative, maturity, integrity, flexibility, and good judgment.
Minimum Qualifications:License: Any full, active, and unrestricted license or certificate that gives legal authority to administer COVID vaccines. Possession of a valid Class “C” driver’s license, or equivalent, may be required.

SELECTION PROCESS:
Depending upon the number of applicants meeting the minimum qualifications and filing requirements, applicants may be scheduled for the process listed below:
- Certify without Examination - In instances where the number of eligible candidates is less than or equal to the number of qualified applicants the Department is entitled to receive under Personnel Rule 4212, the competitive examination process will be waived and the names will be certified without an examination.
Successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 3 months (may be extended up to an additional 12 months) and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.
