The County of Ventura is seeking immediate support for COVID-19 Crisis Response by hiring Paramedic and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) to help with administering vaccinations. Must be willing to work various shifts including weekends and/or nights and must be comfortable working in proper personal protective equipment in an environment of potential COVID exposure.
Salary Pay Per Hour: $20.36
AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Health Care Agency
Technical Specialist II is represented by the Service Employees' International Union (SEIU) and is eligible for overtime compensation.
The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Temporary and Extra-Help vacancies. There are multiple anticipated vacancies. Temporary Extra-Help positions are not eligible for benefits.
TENTATIVE SCHEDULE
OPENING DATE: January 7, 2021
CLOSING DATE: Continuous and may close at any time; therefore, the schedule for the remainder of the process will depend upon when we receive a sufficient number of qualified applications to meet business needs.
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Injects COVID vaccine into patients;
- Makes patient observations and records unusual conditions or behavior utilizing technical judgement; and
- Performs other related duties as required.
These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.
Any combination of education and/or experience which has led to the acquisition of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Be a High school graduate or possess a GED certificate
- Possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain a valid unrestricted California Class C driver license, at time of hire.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS AT TIME OF HIRE:
- Current and valid California Paramedic or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.
- Current and valid CPR card, current and valid, issued by one of the following agencies: American Heart Association Healthcare Provider, American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer, or American Safety and Health Institute CPR for the Professional Rescue.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be willing and able to work in hospitals, clinics, and testing sites located throughout Ventura County.
- Must be willing and able to work overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed and/ or on short notice.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of: and ability to apply a variety of techniques, methods and procedures utilizing required equipment for patient care.
Comprehensive ability to: to establish and maintain effective relations with nursing and medical staff, to follow Agency policies and instructions as given, and the ability to establish and maintain the confidence of patients.
May require working in various departments and a variety of shifts.Recruitment Process

Applicants successfully completing the examination process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year.
