Job Description
Shift: Hourly, Evenings, Rotating /weekend as needed~8 Hrs/week
Reporting to the Director of Laboratory with accountability to the team facilitator and team, serves as a courier to the Reference Laboratory in a professional and dependable manner that supports the general operation of the Reference Laboratory.
1. Picks up specimens and delivers reports and supplies to clients in an efficient manner, according to established policies and procedures. Maintains a strong customer focus; provides reliable/responsible service; establishes and maintains a positive rapport with clients.
2. Monitors car maintenance; anticipates service which may be required for vehicle and reports to the Facilitator; checks fuel and oil according to routine maintenance standards; schedules oil changes and other normal vehicle maintenance when needed; keeps vehicle in presentable condition by washing and vacuuming as needed; reports any damage to NCRL Facilitator.
3. Keeps daily log documenting time of each client pickup, supplies and reports delivered, and any delay or problem encountered. Assists in route time studies.
4. Coordinates courier route design in conjunction with the Client Services Liaison; maintains flexibility to alter route based on receipt of STAT orders.
5. Participates in special projects, such as health fair courier; performs special pickups as needed.
6. May serve as backup to other couriers as needed.
7. Teaches routes and procedures to new couriers as required.
8. Remains familiar with supply processing for clients; pulls supplies and fill clients orders as needed.
9. Adheres to departmental and hospital safety standards in order to maintain a safe patient care and working environment. Attends mandatory inservice programs.
10. Adheres to all Northwest Community Hospital standards, policies, and procedures; knows and adheres to the Laboratory dry ice policy to maintain the integrity of specimens.
Qualifications
1. The level of knowledge normally obtained through the completion of four years of high school.
2. Valid Illinois drivers license with a good driving record and habits.
3. Knowledge of the Chicago metropolitan area.
4. The organizational skills necessary to work independently and effectively alter route to meet customer needs.
5. The communication skills necessary to interact effectively with clients and co-workers.
6. Good map reading skills with the ability to follow verbal and written directions.
7. The interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain a positive rapport with clients.
8. The ability to effectively handle stress related to meeting schedules, client demands, and interruption of routine.
9. The ability to present a positive professional appearance to clients.
10. The ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate unexpected staffing changes.
11. The ability to use a computer to perform the Representative Functions and Competencies of the job as defined by assigned department.
