POSITION PURPOSE The Catalog Specialist Copywriter develops descriptions for a wide range of products to support the decor catalog. Builds catalog copy on page templates as specified by metadata and merchants; proofs catalog layouts, checking all details against metadata, brand standards and proof corrections to maintain accuracy. Partners with Managers of Creative, Designers, Merchants and Project Manager to delivery print and online-ready catalog pages.
MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES15% Develops and writes original promotional copy for all assigned categories; negotiates with merchants on tone and content to promote and protect the THD brand
15% Develops print ad messaging utilized for direct mail, newsletters, broadcast (radio/TV), outdoor, regional and field marketing, Internet and Newspaper; ensures message is consistent with the Merchandising/Marketing leadership s vision
15% Ensures content development is on time and on budget; self-manages and prioritizes workload; communicates deadline issues to team members and management
15% Serves as a copy and informational resource to internal and external partners; assists other departments with promotional and advertising needs
10% Creates concepts/headlines for advertising campaigns, collaborating with agency and internal partners
10% Actively researches competitors to understand how they are communicating to customers
10% Provides guidance and consults with appropriate resources to adhere to corporate, federal and state regulations
10% Attend category strategy meetings to ensure pages have a focused strategy; responsible for any deliverables from merchant wall walks
Position reports to Sr Manager
No direct responsibility for supervising others.
ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Environment:
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant condition
Travel:
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Education Required:
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
Years of Relevant Work Experience: 3 years
Physical Requirements:
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles. Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience creating, editing and proofing copy in a minimum of two of the following mediums: print, OLA, email, web.
- Previous employment in a retail environment working with a team of designers and production specialists.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
- Working knowledge of Mac OS, Microsoft Office, InDesign or similar DTP program required; CMS/editing software, Adobe CS, HTML5, JavaScript, Flash and other emerging platforms a plus.
- Well-developed communication skills including ability to articulate creative concepts and rationale for client and team.
- Competent in strategic brainstorming, campaign development and creative brief execution.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, self-manage workload and prioritize deadlines.
- Attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Adaptability to changes in process, technology, strategy.
