- Write feature stories highlighting programs, events, honors, and staff and student achievements for the district's online newsroom, staff newsletters and website
- Work with departments and School Leadership as needed to gather facts and write about district initiatives, program updates, board decisions, etc.
- Edit and proofread stories, parent and staff newsletters, media releases, marketing collateral, trustee columns, etc. written by Communications staff
- Write features spotlighting the district's diversity that tell the stories of students, staff, leadership and allies, for Voices webpage and similar platforms; Help maintain the webpage's story calendar
- Write remarks, reports, proclamations, resolutions, award nominations and speeches for trustees, superintendent and leadership staff as requested
- Produce monthly trustee columns and board meeting accolades; coordinate and edit those written by other Communications staff
- Coordinate with campuses and departments to obtain information for stories and articles
- Work collaboratively with graphic designers and web staff to produce visual material for district's online newsroom using photos, illustrations and info-graphics to help tell the district's story

- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, or related field
- Exceptional writing and editing skills
- Three to five years of professional experience in journalism, public relations, marketing, photography, or communications
- Demonstrated ability to work on multiple assignments, meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivator with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Develop and foster relationships with central and campus staff to build capacity to develop ongoing pipeline of stories and content
- Knowledge of AP Style
- Experience working with diverse populations a plus
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus
