Job Description
Overview: Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Control Systems Analysis Engineer to join our growing Huntsville, AL location. In this position, the engineer will work with more experienced engineers to support the various control systems analysis activities associated with throttling solid rocket technology for existing and new programs. The work includes dynamic modeling and simulation, control algorithm design and development, steady state and transient analysis and design, testing, and presentation of results. The engineer would ideally be familiar with Matlab/Simulink, C/C++, Python, control theory, and propulsion theory.
This individual will mentor under the senior engineers to develop the necessary design skills required to analyze and create system designs. Must be able to work independently, as well as collaborate with large development teams.

This current opening may be filled at this level as posted or at one level higher.Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each): 60% - Under general supervision, apply advanced techniques and theories to perform transient and steady state analysis for solid and liquid rocket propulsion systems. Knowledge of control theory, simulation and modeling characteristics are important for this role. Support team in using and developing system simulation software tools such as Matlab/Simulink and other custom software applications. Support development of rocket propulsion hardware and software requirements, including involvement in and coordination of derivation of internal requirements allocation. Work with team members to develop compliance assessments and verification plans. Analyze test data, comparing to performance predictions and trend applicable parameters. Work with teams to assess system fault tolerance and health monitoring and sensor application.
15% - Support solid and liquid propulsion system testing, including test plan and test procedure development, pre-test predictions, integration of electronic test support equipment, and development of test-related software.
15% - Document work in reports and presentations, and present results to small diverse audiences that may include customer and industry technical experts.
10% - Review work with peers and experienced engineers. Participate in Integrated Product Team meetings. Participate in planning and support propulsion system development tests and verification testing through solid rocket motor test setup, conduct, and data reduction.Requirements: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Aeronautical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or appropriate discipline and at least 2 years of directly related technical experience in solid propulsion design or control systems engineering disciplines, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Additional Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive experience with Matlab/Simulink is highly desired, particularly any experience with autocode generation, or parallel processing.
- Course, lab work, and/or direct work experience in control systems analysis, optimization methods, propulsion analysis, and statistical methods are highly desired
- Demonstrated skills with Python, Easy 5, C/C+/C++/C# is preferred
- Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems is preferred
- Experience with 6DOF analysis and data reduction is preferred
- Experience with liquid and/or solid propulsion system analysis is desired
- The Engineer would be expected to travel 10-25% to support testing, for training and mentoring, and to support technical meetings with customers.
- The position may be filled at a Senior Engineer level for more experienced candidates. Undergraduate or graduate coursework in control theory is very relevant to this job posting. A Master’s Degree in an appropriate discipline is preferred but not essential.
