POSITION DESCRIPTION: Conservation Program ASL Coordinator
Position Title: Conservation Program ASL Coordinator, Middle Rio Grande Region Work Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico, with travel throughout the state, and some in the region and country Classification: Full-time, Hourly, desired start date of April 4, 2022 Schedule: Mon-Fri 7am-4:30pm, with additional time as required by program needs Compensation: $20 per hour and up DOE, before taxes and paid every 2 weeks; all benefits as described in RMYC Staff Manual. Benefits upon start include cell phone reimbursement and uniform allowance. After a 60 day waiting period, employees are eligible on the subsequent first day of the month for premium-free health insurance, dental, life insurance, Flexible Spending Account, retirement plan, and wellness incentive. Supervision Exercised: Exercises supervision over Crew Supervisors; indirect supervision of Assistant Crew Leaders & Crew Members Supervision Received: Receives general supervision from the Middle Rio Grande Conservation Program Manager
Position Purpose : The role of the ASL Coordinator is to ensure proper functioning of crew logistics in accordance with RMYC’s guidelines and the philosophy of Positive Youth Development (PYD). The coordinator will oversee two (2) ASL crews - one crew based out of Albuquerque, located at the Valle de Oro Wildlife Refuge, and one crew based out of Santa Fe, located at the New Mexico School for the Deaf. The ideal candidate will support the personal and professional development of crew members, and promote a culture of safety at all times, all while supporting Crew Supervisors in meeting expectations of project quality and efficiency.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Program Coordination
Care for and coordinate projects and partnerships for summer season crews
- Communicate with project partners to ensure timely completion of project activities and outcomes
- Regularly communicate project timelines to Crew Supervisors, crews, and Program Manager
- Oversee RMYC crews with emphasis on contract agreements and RMYC reporting
- Work closely with Program Manager and Logistics Coordinator in tracking and management of vehicles, tools, supplies, and equipment
- Provide general oversight for program operations
Provide general risk management oversight and communicate risk management issues with Crew Supervisors and Program Manager
Personnel Management and Training
Deliver orientation content in subject matter such as Supervisorship, Stages of Group Development, and Vehicle Maintenance
- Directly supervise, coach, and guide Crew Supervisors, ensuring Positive Youth Development, professional and efficient crew operations, and the fulfillment of RMYC's mission
- Communicate with Crew Supervisors to manage corpsmember performance or behavioral issues, including completion of incident report forms
- Coach corpsmembers on proper completion of time cards
- Collaborate with RMYC Training Department on weekly education session design and coordination
- Provide technical training for summer program in areas of expertise – project work may include trail construction and maintenance techniques, habitat restoration, erosion control, invasive species removal, environmental education, community garden construction, community outreach, and tool use/maintenance
Coordinate with Training Department to provide trainings
Administrative Duties
Coordinate completion of project reporting (Project Impact Forms) to inform bi-weekly reports
- Assist Crew Supervisors in tracking and coding all projects, expenses, and in-kind contributions
- Approve extra hours assignments to facilitate crew members reaching the required number of hours to complete their service terms
Complete paperwork with accuracy and efficiency
Facilitate regular program evaluations with emphasis on staff development, program improvement, contract requirements, and impact enhancement- Acquire and manage contractual service, grant-funded, and Fee For Service projects to engage RMYC conservation crews in projects that meet Corpsmember learning goals and organizational objectives
- Collaborate with managers, other directors and the Executive Director in developing strategy for programmatic and financial sustainability.
- Assist with grant-writing efforts as needed
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate in staff and program meetings
- Substitute for Crew Supervisors when necessary
- Work with other staff members on a variety of events and projects
Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREDKnowledge
Familiarity with public land managing agencies and conservation work
- Advanced skill level in all or most of the following: trail construction and maintenance, landscaping, adobe and concrete construction, erosion prevention, and hand tool use and maintenance
Knowledge of local community, regional contacts, and agency partnerships
Experience with positive youth development and working with youth and young adults ages 17-25
- Experience working with young people, preferably in an outdoor and/or experiential setting.
Experience overseeing staff and projects
Fluent in American Sign Language
- Exemplary organizational skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Good group facilitation skills
- Proficient in all Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications, as well as virtual conference platforms such as Zoom
Strong attention to detail and ability to organize tasks and prioritize to meet deadlines
Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds
- Good mentoring and problem-solving skills
- The ability to interact credibly and diplomatically with all levels in the Corps organization and the external community – tailoring communication effectively for different groups and stakeholders
- Flexibility, adaptability and capacity to work in a fluid, changing work environment.

Preferred Experience / Education / Certification:
Lived experience and knowledge of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community
- College/vocational/ technical degree in education, natural resources, youth development or a related field
- Three or more seasons of experience in a youth conservation corps or similar field
Two or more years (or seasonal equivalent) of supervisory experience
Travel Requirements:
Use of RMYC fleet vehicles to visit project partner locations
Periodic non-traditional work hours, inclusive of weekend and/or evening hours
Physical Activities and Requirements
To successfully perform essential functions of this position, the candidate is required to sit, stand, walk, speak and hear; may be required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl on an infrequent basis. He/she must be able to operate office equipment, telephone, and computer and reach with hands and arms. They may be required to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
