The Communications Analyst assumes a writing-intensive role that requires good story-telling skills. Operating in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, the successful candidate will be adept at maneuvering through complex organizations, comfortable with working with individuals at all levels within an organization, and capable of translating complicated ideas and messages into relatable, human stories.
The Communications Analyst must be able to operate independently, show good judgement and discretion, and be comfortable with ambiguity and technology.
The Main ResponsibilitiesMain Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Communications Analyst will assume writing assignments, either assigned by the Director or developed through his or her own efforts. These assignments primarily involve:
- Journalistic pieces designed for placement in the corporate newsroom under its Lumen Lede section. These stories will reinforce corporate messaging through human stories that involve customers, solutions, technology and employees.
- Blog thought pieces by various senior leaders within Lumen
The Communications Analyst will also regularly coordinate with his/her colleagues within internal communications and social media to ensure the maximum reach and exposure of the content he/she has written.
What We Look For in a Candidate- Proficient writer who can generate content quickly
- Experience writing in a journalistic setting, either in a professional newsroom, an academic program, or student activity (such as a school newspaper).
- Familiar with public relations or corporate communications in an organizational setting
- Familiar with the challenges of writing within an online environment (shorter content, use of subhead and bullets, content “chunking”, SEO, etc.)
- Comfortable with technology environments
- Understands story-telling principles
- Can transform mundane topics into compelling content
- A willingness to learn
