The Communications Specialist at a journeyman level will assist and provide support by attending appropriate meetings, create and recommend materials and responses to media, public, and congressional inquiries for management action, and coordinate high profile events such as groundbreaking and ribbon cutting ceremonies for facilities and public outreach meetings.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide communications support to the Dept. Of Homeland Security (DHS) – U.S. Customs & Border Patrol (CBP) Mission.
  • Support the development and implementation of communications strategy and outreach plans, and coordinate information dissemination and stakeholder outreach
  • update and continue to execute the overall PMO communications and stakeholder outreach plan to reflect the organization's changing needs
  • Develop, coordinate and execute communication and stakeholder outreach plans for the PMO's Tactical Infrastructure (TI) and Facilities projects and Real Estate and Environmental initiatives as necessary
  • Oversee and ensure accurate content of the PMO SharePoint homepage (or its replacement), and identify opportunities to inform key internal and external stakeholders of the PMO's accomplishments
  • Provide strategic support on communication and outreach activities on an on-going/as needed basis, identify opportunities to spotlight the PMO's programs and its accomplishments, and ensure that timely and accurate information is disseminated to and responses are made to CBP and PMO stakeholders while remaining consistent with internal and external messaging.

Supervisory/Management Authority:

  • This position will not have supervisory or management authority

Education and/or Experience:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a related field is required
  • Five minimum years of related experience; preferably in a federal setting

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Utilizing and applying computer software including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication skills; both oral and written
  • The ability to obtain a Clearance or Common Access Card (CAC)
  • Ability to successfully pass a drug screen and federal background check
  • The ability to successfully pass a drug screen and a federal background check is mandatory

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a secured federal office environment
