What you will do
As a Direct Materials Commodity Manager, you would be responsible and accountable for leading the development and execution of the commodity strategy for the designated commodity regionally or globally. This role will build relationships with external suppliers, internal stakeholders, and procurement team members to build alignment for the development of the strategy, to mitigate supply risk, and achieve the realization of the cost savings associated with the commodity strategy.
How you will do it
- For global commodities, with input from regional procurement team members and key stakeholders, and based on external market dynamics, develop and gain approval for global commodity strategy for assigned commodity
- Lead negotiation with suppliers key to development of program associated with commodity strategy. Supports negotiations with regional suppliers for assigned commodity. Collaborate with Clarios Legal for escalation of certain risk-related terms and conditions
- Identify, develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers to understand the suppliers’ current capabilities for the company as well as additional capabilities
- Actively manage strategic programs and suppliers, leveraging the use of supplier relationship management techniques such as scorecards and Quarterly Business Reviews to continually review performance and seek out continuous improvement opportunities
- Create, develop and supervise production capacity strategy with suppliers
- Provide leadership and accountability in on-going commodity cost reduction programs and appropriate material inventory levels to mitigate supply risk balanced with material inventory reduction efforts.
- For each procurement project, ensure project alignment and drive collaborative procurement efforts with the necessary cross-functional stakeholders, counterparts, and matrix teams (e.g. Engineering, Operations, Supplier Quality, Compliance, Legal, Risk, etc.). Escalates as appropriate to influence key stakeholders critical to project success
- Develop and accountable for budgets/standard cost for quarterly/annual operating and long range planning for the defined commodity globally
- Develop, present, and gain approval for hedge plans and cost forecasting models. Implement supplier and exchange traded hedging instruments including futures, swaps, and options through approved commodity exchanges
- Identify and determine strategy to implement process and tool improvements for strategic sourcing, tactical buying, and supplier payment
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the marketplace, benchmarks, legislation, industry best practices, and key drivers for assigned commodity. Be the subject matter expert within procurement globally for that commodity
- For global commodities, train regional commodity managers, senior buyers, and buyers on critical elements of the commodity strategy and execution necessary to achieve business goals
- Assist with key supplier issue resolution and risk mitigation, as required
- Adhere to Clarios procurement policies and procedures
What we look for
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, Engineering or other related field. MBA Preferred
- Minimum 8 years of experience in procurement, materials management, operations, supply chain, finance, program management, commercial or related
- Minimum of 3 years in leading the development and management of commodity strategies, strategic sourcing, implementation of procurement programs, contract development, negotiation and development of suppliers
- Self-motivated and driven by the responsibility of “owning” a commodity
- Must be able to work at both a strategic and tactical level
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results individually and through influencing others, preferably in a fast paced, complex environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of internal stakeholders and suppliers
- Demonstrated project management capabilities to lead and continually prioritize several complex projects
- Strong financial analytical skills for conducting analysis, cost modeling, and business case development
- Skilled listener with a polished verbal and written communication style
- Comfortable with ambiguity, ability to embrace change and continually improve. Has a continuous improvement mindset
- Able to travel up to 25% (post-COVID)
