POSITION: Commercial Development Manager - US Central

REPORTS TO: Head of Global Sales

DEPARTMENT: Commercial

STATUS: Exempt

POSITION OVERVIEW

TwinStrand is seeking an experienced Commercial Development Manager in the Central US (preferably in the Houston, Texas area) to join our growing field-based team to interact with a wide range of customers within the life sciences fields, across different disciplines. Your role will be to establish and manage lasting relationships to promote TwinStrand’s ultra-accurate Duplex Sequencing™ technology via our end-to-end solutions, which include including comprehensive biochemistry, cloud-based software and assay development partnerships. You will work closely with our respected Field Application Scientist team to best position the attributes of our technology portfolio and leverage your network of Key Opinion Leaders and C-level relationships to expand the opportunities for our technology to have a positive impact.

Success in this role will require a significant ability to communicate across technical teams and possess a deep understanding of next-generation sequencing platforms, applications and markets. It will similarly necessitate a strategic mindset and a passion to understand and meet customer needs and advocate on their behalf. The responsibilities of this role extend significantly beyond that of transactional sales; achievement will be broadly viewed, not only by based on short term product uptake, but also upon inroads made into long term adoption in both research and regulated markets.

You will become an ambassador for our technology through training, co-travel with our Field Application Scientist team and early mentoring, to facilitate your rapid transition to a role with a high degree of independence. You will have support from our Field Application Scientists and Marketing teams but will be afforded significant autonomy to develop your own approaches and style for presenting the technology.

Through close customer relationships you will also serve as the eyes and ears of the company. You will form a crucial link between the market and our R&D and marketing teams. You will bring back experiences, challenges, customer input and your own suggestions to help TwinStrand continually innovate and expand our product portfolio, resources, and training materials.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Present yourself as a broad solution-funding resource and develop and foster relationships with Key Opinion Leaders and Key Decision Makers.
  • Provide professional leadership in planning, organizing, and controlling balanced sales growth, continued account penetration, and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage and lead the development and implementation of strategic territory plans and sales tactics to attain assigned sales objectives within territory.
  • Organize and prioritize prospects based on customer needs to go beyond transactional sales to become a true strategic partner.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of individual customers’ needs through strong working relationships.

EXPERIENCE AND CAPABILITIES

  • Master’s degree in life science (preferred) or business degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful sales experience in the diagnostics/life sciences industry or highly technical product portfolio sales experience using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
  • Outstanding track record of successful teamwork with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with clinical and translational research in oncology, genetics and other fields; experience interacting with physician-scientists preferred.
  • Deep understanding of the competitive landscape, market drivers and trends likely to influence adoption within different application areas.

PHYSICAL AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • This field-based position will require the ability to travel both domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time, inclusive of academic conferences when safe to do so with regards to COVID-19.
  • Need to be capable of lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.
