Coding Manager – Revenue Integrity & Centralized Coding

Overview of Position

This role provides operational leadership for the coding operations function. Ensures delivery of accurate and timely coding of inpatient and outpatient records according to established Policies and Procedures. Directly manages all employees involved in medical coding /abstracting, provides direction for all coding activities, productivity and employee satisfaction. Additionally, ensure staffing performance and distribution aligns with performance objectives and staffing models/ratios. Develop and maintain relationships with clients and operations to continuously optimize workflows and potentially add-on sales (organic growth). Responsible for developing and maintaining successful client relationships, internal customers and offshore vendor relationships. This is a remote/telecommuter role.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

  • Overall management of coding operations – includes key performance metrics for client satisfaction and operational efficiency (turn-over-time, quality, staffing levels etc.) Assists in the completion of a monthly dashboard for client delivery on key metrics.
  • Manage staffing levels and allocations from an overall business perspective staying within budget and FTE allocations. Manage and monitor coder quality and ensure performance management is completed for any outliers (up to and including termination).
  • Assists in the management of new client implementations including workflow design, staffing needs, vendor certification, coder hire/certification and pathways to ensure successful go-live.
  • Proactively manages and resolves client issues. Tracks progress and opportunities across coding operations. Alerts customer to any coding changing areas impacting revenue or workflow.
  • Ensure committed monthly volumes are met and/or achieved. If a fluctuation in volumes is identified, proactively work with client/client manager and determine reason. Make necessary adjustments from a finance and staffing perspective.
  • Each month, responsible for invoicing client, identifying volumes for intercompany allocation & forecasting volumes for future months for budgeting and revenue projections.

What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • Minimum of 5 years coding operational experience including management of staff
  • Knowledge of physician revenue cycle management and experience with revenue cycle platforms such as GE Centricity, Cerner, etc.
  • Intermediate level Excel experience to include Pivot Tables & V-Lookups
  • Experience with data analysis specifically regarding physician revenue cycle reports – what’s the data telling you, do you see trends, etc.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Pro-active, detail orientated, thorough and well organized
  • Ability to work cross functionally within a large, complex organization
  • Strong problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Successful experience leading, coaching and mentoring

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • Proficiency in Business Objects reporting tool desirable

How much should I expect to travel?

This position will require minimal travel. Employees in roles that require travel will need to be able to qualify for a company credit card or be able to use their own personal credit card for travel expenses and submit for reimbursement.
