JOB DESCRIPTION:

The CAID machine shop is primarily a prototyping or “one-off” shop running small batches of 5-20 pieces, setting-up and running multiple part numbers through a machining center. Our machine shop is more of a quick turn, rapid response, make one or a few and then move on to the next job setting where planning and efficiency are required. Machinists will have the opportunity to work on several jobs at once and have the autonomy to create fixturing or work holding that will suit varied jobs.

Job Description: this is for 2nd shift. Wage plus $2.50/hr shift differential + Quarterly Bonus.

CAID CNC Mill/Manual Machinists will interact with shop management and production leads, be expected to set up, make offsets, and machine various parts and materials in a timely and efficient manner, maintain a high level of quality through all areas of part production and finishing, keep work area and equipment clean and tidy, and perform basic machine tool maintenance. The CNC Mill/Manual machinist will also be expected to train on and operate various shop machine tools.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gauges, dial indicators and Vernier calipers
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operation
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials on to machines
  • Monitor and set appropriate feed and speed of machines during the machining process
  • Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock to display placement of cuts
  • Performs other duties as assigned

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3-5 years' job experience operating CNC/Manual mills in an industrial shop environment
  • Able to correctly read, comprehend and interpret blueprints and drawings
  • Be able to successfully demonstrate the safe, efficient, and correct operation of machine tools
  • Familiarity with fabrication equipment and techniques
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions/communicate in English (both written and oral) as it relates to the job
  • Must be adaptable to an ever-changing work environment and able to deal with delays or unexpected events
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible shifts and changing work schedules
  • Must be able to pass an ITAR-grade background check
  • Controlling machines- Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or process
  • Make decisions and solve problems/analyze information and evaluating results to choose the best solutions
  • Detect equipment malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjust machines, within capabilities, controls or control media as required to ensure quality of production
  • Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly and perform basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Sitting, standing, kneeling, laying, stooping, crawling, reaching, pulling
  • Lifting to 50lbs regularly and 75lbs occasionally
  • Handling and moving objects- Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials
  • Must be able to stand, squat, bend, crawl, reach
  • Must be able to climb ladders or make use of a lift

Manufacturing environment: May be exposed to loud noises, changing temperatures, machinery with moving parts, and exotic materials.
