Essential Function:
Works in a safe manner, adhering to all applicable company and OSHA safety guidelines. Maintains production and quality by ensuring operation of machinery, mechanical equipment and electronic equipment. Builds mechanical systems, electronic systems, components, and parts by completing assembly and testing procedures. Performs all aspects of electrical installation and hook-up of electrical distribution.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
- Develops and executes preventative and predictive maintenance system to minimize equipment downtime by developing PM checklist, downtime tracking system for planned and unplanned maintenance, and monitoring overall department equipment uptime.
- Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
- Minimizes equipment downtime by informing production workers and operations management of routine preventive maintenance schedules and monitoring compliance.
- Ability to fabricate repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
- Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
- Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
- Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions, requests and recording maintenance operations.
- Ensures production operations by determining work priorities, communicating with Operations Management and scheduling repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment.
- Provides utilities by directing installation of, modifications to, and maintenance activities on equipment.
- Resolves maintenance problems by conferring with operators, management, engineering, and quality control personnel, outside contractors and service personnel.
- Protects employees and visitors by maintaining a safe and clean building. Recognizes and rectifies potential unsafe conditions.
- Contributes to a Team Effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the Silfex Quality Management System and properly apply Quality Procedures and Operating Procedures as appropriate.
- Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; establishing personal networks; participating in technical decision making.
- Identifies and strives for continuous improvement in all aspects of job performance, education, processes, procedures and methods.
- Acts as a key member of the Emergency Response Team.
- Subject to call-in during off-shift and weekends as needed.
- Primary Maintenance Trainer
- Demonstrate competency with office computer software
- Proficient at advanced troubleshooting and repair of CNC Equipment with emphasis on Usach products:
- Mechanical systems including Spindle, Ballscrew and Rail replacement
- Machine tool function, controls, and troubleshooting with I/O
- PLC programming (creating, editing, troubleshooting) preferred
- Pneumatics and hydraulics
- Software debug
- Analyzes circuits, wiring diagrams, and drawings
- Coolant pump and filtration system
- Mechanical chiller systems
- 4th/B-axis rotary axis
- Grease and oil lubrication systems
- Blum and Renishaw measuring equipment
- Experience with equipment alignment tools, Ballbar, and laser compensation
- Ability to modify, redline, and draw schematics as needed
- Experience with moving existing or installing new equipment
- High understanding of a variety of mechanical, electrical, and electronic components and controls
- Has flexibility in schedule to train other techs on off shifts
- Has flexibility to travel to other Silfex sites to support needs
- Takes the lead on Maintenance Projects
- Follow all company safety policies and report any unsafe conditions to Manufacturing Manager, EHS Manager, and/ or Director of Manufacturing.
- Assist in applying lean manufacturing concepts and 5S.
- Perform tasks/duties related to special projects or assignments.
- Perform other duties as assigned by department management.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Must be a high school graduate, or have a General Education Degree (GED), an Associate College degree in engineering is preferred.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience as a maintenance tech in a manufacturing environment.
- 5+ years of repair skills focused on the mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical aspects of Usach CNC machines.
- Self-motivated.
- Have or obtain certification for lift truck, scissors lift and other service and maintenance equipment.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Must be able to work effectively individually and in a team environment.
- Must be able to pay close attention to details.
- Must be able to perform successfully under minimum supervision.

The employee is exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the environment is moderate.
