BASIC FUNCTION:

The incumbent will operate various pieces of equipment to drill predetermined sized and patterns into steel plates and parts using CNC drill presses and plasma drills.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates an automatic tool changing single spindle drill press that is numerically controlled. Performs one or more of the following machine operations; drilling, reaming, countersinking, and spot-facing and tapping.
  • Operator programs the automatic operation and verifies dimensions from shop drawings.
  • Observes operation and periodically verifies conformance of machined work to process sheet, specifications and blueprint data.
  • Performs other duties as directed by leaders and management.
  • Actively participate in department safety, demonstrate excellent safety practices and behaviors which conform to all Valmont safety policies and procedures.

SKILLS /QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 years experience of CNC set-up and programming experience in a heavy manufacturing environment is desired or graduation from an accredited trade school with 1 year of experience.
  • A thorough knowledge of drilling procedures and practices are essential to ensure the quality of the product. This will include the ability to calculate formulas using basic mathematics, standard U.S. and Metric Measurements.
  • Ability to read and decipher blue prints without assistance and use them to properly lay out and drill shop projects.
  • Able to prioritize work in order to complete deadlines. They must also be able to work through problem with the minimum amount of assistance from the leadperson or the supervisor. This will include maintaining a clean work area.
  • At the end of 90 Calendar days the candidate must be able to maintain an acceptable level of production, quality and attendance as determined by Management.
