Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION: To provide leadership; strategy, design, implementation and management of Infrastructure architecture in IaaS, PaaS and SaaS models. To provide guidance infrastructure architecture; application deployment processes and procedures in the support of Cincinnati Children's mission and goals. To mentor and lead talented IT professionals. To promote industry best practices.


REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cloud solutions architecture
Plan, design, implement and maintain infrastructure in AWS (and/or other public cloud infrastructure). Provide highly redundant, secure and cost efficient solutions to host storage and applications in the public cloud. Design scalable cloud solutions with interoperability with other public clouds and on-prem infrastructure in mind. Lead a team of highly skilled cloud engineers to deliver sustainable Infrastructure solutions to Biomedical research. Collaborate with institutional security team to ensure adequate security controls are in place in the cloud hosted infrastructure.
  • DevOps
Automate infrastructure processes, both on-prem and in the cloud, using modern technologies to improve efficiency. Liaison with Development teams to help implement CI/CD pipelines for both on-prem and cloud application hosting. Develop and document policies, processes and procedures for the Cloud/DevOps team with respect to project life cycle including intake, implementation, change control etc. Ensure adherence to such policies and adjust them as needed by business requirements.
  • Technical expertise
Recognized within and outside of the organization as an industry expert. Works with leadership on strategic direction and complex system setup and requirements. Requires in-depth expertise and understanding of the technical and business requirements of the Research Enterprise. Solves unique problems that have broad impact on the Research Enterprise. Conducts complex research to determine roadmaps, trends and influences that impact the institution. Focuses on the technology needs for all of Research Enterprise. Recognized as a leader in their field with experience across multiple disciplines. Proactive strategic thinker that anticipates industry trends.
  • Research Enterprise Architecture
Expert knowledge in system design and functionality across multiple disciplines. Responsible for creating/overseeing the architecture plan/roadmap and risk assessments for EBA's.
  • Team Management
Perform performance evaluations, determine training needs, help to set and communicate priorities, help develop and manage budget, mentor employees on development, design and process. Help in solving issues. Provide career advice for employees. Make sure employees participate in all mandated training, programs and activities as directed by the hospital or I.S. Ensure team meets deadlines and delivers products as requested and as designed.
  • Customer Service
Ensure outstanding end-user support is provided, including ongoing monitoring of Service Level Agreements for incident management and collaboration with other areas to ensure customer-centered incident management and support. Adhere to and promote continual adoption of change management policies and procedures. Model outstanding customer service behavior, including timely and effective follow-up with customers. Always maintain CCHMC's service standards of being Courteous, Attentive, Respectful and Enthusiastic team members, and Safe (CARES).
  • Miscellaneous
Represent our architecture, tools, standards, policies and processes with the hospital and outside entities. Provide presentations and talks when necessary about our design, processes and services available. Present on tools, architecture and other aspects of our development to visitors, at site visits, in internal and external presentations as well as potentially other venues or publications. Make sure documentation is appropriate and available to the correct audiences. Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE


Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field OR Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 4 years' experience managing a team of professionals
  • 8 years' related experience such as developing large multi-tier software products using object oriented concepts, developing scalable systems using queuing, caching AND designing large multi-tier software products using design patterns and best practice.

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree in a related field
  • Experience using a design tool such as Enterprise Architect OR Experience using the Rational suite of products.

Unique Skills:

  • Technical Skills
Clear understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle. Deep understanding of Object Oriented Development, Software Design and UML. Wide knowledge of software development tools, design tools and methodologies. Prefer understanding of design patterns such as model-view, Factory, Facade, etc. and modern integration tools such as service buses, SOA, BPM, etc.
