If this sounds like a good fit to you, the Child and Family Services program is accepting applications for two (2) full-time Clinicians to serve as Qualified Individuals on our Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA) team. These positions can be located at the department’s administrative office in downtown Boise or within statewide regional offices dependent on the location of selected candidates.
General Information:
  • These are permanent, full-time, benefitted positions.
  • There may be some opportunity to telework.
  • CANS Certification will be required. CANS/ICANS training and certification will be provided through the Division of Behavioral Health/Praed Foundation.

Our generous benefits package increases the total compensation of a full-time (benefits eligible) Clinician making $25.50/hour to an estimated $36.59/hour.

The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare is a drug-free workplace. Any applicant offered employment in this position at the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test in addition to completing a criminal history background investigation. Employment is dependent upon satisfactory results of the investigation.

Example of Duties

  • Conduct assessments of children and youth referred to QI Clinician team using an approved, child-specific strengths and needs assessment tool (CANS) for placement in a Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP.)
  • Work with assigned child welfare case managers to obtain available background information needed for completing the assessment.
  • Collaborate with assigned child welfare case managers to identify appropriate family members, providers, and collaborative contacts to interview towards completion of Child Adolescent Needs and Strengths Assessments (CANS.)
  • Schedule and conduct virtual interviews to gather information.
  • Complete CANS assessments and provide written summary reports, to include recommendation on level of care, for the Court within 20 days of receipt of a referral for assessment of a child/youth’s placement in a QRTP and ongoing while the child/youth remains in a QRTP level of care facility.
  • Schedule and facilitate initial Family Permanency Team meetings to discuss results of the assessments and recommendation for level of care and ongoing treatment needs;
  • Ensure that monthly clinical case consultations are held for children/youth continuing in QRTP placements which include Family Permanency Team members, to discuss their identified treatment goals and discharge planning.

  • A Master's Degree (or higher) in a direct clinical practice Human Services field is required for this position. (Master's degree in social work, psychology, marriage and family counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychosocial rehabilitation counseling, psychiatric nursing, or very closely related field of study.)

Additional Qualifications: Are not required; however, having the minimum qualifications and the experience and/or education below will increase your score.


  • Licensure in one of following: Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC), Licensed Pastoral Counselors (LPAS), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors (LCPC), and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists (LMFT).   • Good knowledge of child welfare services. Gained by at least three years of experience in the provision of child welfare services.
