MEDICAL & MOLECULAR GENETICS (IN-MMGE-IUINA)

Job Summary

This individual will be a primary contact for local research studies. The individual will work directly with the Indiana University Genetics Biobank staff. This individual will assist the Principal Investigator in the conduct and implementation of genetic research study which includes data collection, quality assurance and/or monitoring; protection of subjects and subject’s rights through IRB regulations; generation of required documentation; education of health professionals, patients and/or families in regard to the clinical study and participation in research program audits. In addition, this individual will prepare study progress reports and present information to the study sponsor and PIs of study sites. This individual will work directly with study participants to determine subject eligibility and obtain consent; educate participant on disease and study protocol; maintain current scientific knowledge of biospecimen collection and uses.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in science or a health-related field and one year of health-related/research experience; OR bachelor’s degree in any other field/associate’s degree in Allied Health professions and three years of health-related/research experience or two years of experience in clinical research.

Self-motivation and strong organizational skills to manage multiple concurrent tasks and a demanding research schedule. Ability to communicate well to convey sensitive information to subjects, family members, and professionals. Basic computer skills including use of a personal computer, and a variety of software for word processing and database management. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

Not required: Speak Spanish to recruit and consent Spanish-speaking participants. Ability to draw blood from subjects as needed.

Working Conditions / Demands

Must be able to work at a computer for long periods of time as well as answering and making numerous telephone calls. Individual may be required to attend, participate in and/or make presentations at meetings and conferences for both lay organizations and professionals and may be required to travel to these locations.
