Job Description
Nuvance Health has a network of convenient hospital and outpatient locations — Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital, Norwalk Hospital and Sharon Hospital in Connecticut, and Northern Dutchess Hospital, Putnam Hospital Center and Vassar Brothers Medical Center in New York — plus multiple primary and specialty care physician practices locations, including The Heart Center, a leading provider of cardiology care, and two urgent care offices. Summary:
This position supports the Cancer Institute (CI) with the planning, design, creation, development, testing, implementation and edits of chemotherapy ordering power plans in Cerner. Position utilizes the advanced knowledge and proficiency in Oncology nursing practice and NCCN Guidelines to determine appropriateness of requested power plans for medical oncologist’s use in the Cancer Institute and collaborates directly with the Medical Oncology Medical Directors, pharmacy and the CI Leadership to reinforce standardization in practice using the NCCN Guidelines or other valid guidelines (ie: ASCO). Assists in the development of system changes in conjunction with clinicians and the ITG staff. Tests new plans in development along with pharmacy and recommend changes to enhance system use for clinicians.
Responsibilities:
1.Provides leadership in developing, implementing and maintaining efficient, safe and effective clinical information systems for Oncology in regard to power plans.
2.Works closely with Clinical, ITG and pharmacy staff to troubleshoot issues with system, performs root cause analysis and directs change to correct issues.
3.Acts as a verification nurse by checking the orders for completeness and accuracy to help identify chemotherapy prescribing errors that may prevent administration mistakes and improve patient safety in the outpatient chemotherapy department. Regularly records and reports issues to the Cancer IT Steering Committee and/or other relevant Nuvance Health safety committees.
4.Performs ongoing review of current chemotherapy and biotherapy guidelines that serves as a resource to healthcare providers, including nurses and pharmacists to ensure compliance with Oncology Standards of Care, NCCN guidelines, QOPI measures.
5.Monitors and maintains clinical documentation to meet standards for regulatory requirements.
6.Performs clinical testing of systems changes and works closely with systems analysts to assure quality and implement changes.
7.Serves as a liaison between information Technology, clinical departments and other information Technology department applications to develop and maintain clinical systems functionality that keeps to the latest standards and regulatory requirements.
8.Communicates complex concepts and issues effectively (written and oral) across all levels within the organization. Facilitates problem solving within and between departments.
9.Takes immediate action to solve clinical issues based upon current clinical standards.
10.Acts as an oncology champion and performs regularly scheduled rounding to gather user feedback and respond to clinical needs. Follows through with problem resolution.
11.Trains staff as necessary to the Cerner power plan application on an ongoing basis.
12.Maintains and enhances professional and technical knowledge/certifications and expertise in relevant technologies and strategies through learning events (such as attendance at formal training programs, industry seminars and self- education).
13.Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
14.Performs other duties as assigned.
Other information:
Active RN license.
At least 7 years of chemotherapy experience. Nursing Informatics background a plus.
OCN through the Oncology Nursing Certification Corp.
ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy certification.
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work successfully and collaboratively with a diverse team and multiple departments.
