Summary:
A Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) is a registered nurse who has graduate level nursing preparation at the master's or doctoral level. This position has responsibility for the development and administration of oncology specific education for patients and staff. The Nurse Educator coordinates facilitates and/or teaches speciality classes and is responsible for maintaining education records and overseeing staff education files. The CNE works collaboratively with other departments to ensure quality patient care and satisfaction. The CNE is a leader and facilitator in shared-decision making initiatives at the clinical department and system level. The CNE elevates the standard of professional nursing practice by developing coaching and mentoring staff to become expert clinicians and leaders. The Clinical Nurse Educator functions in accordance with professional practice standards set forth by the American Nurses Association. (ANA 2004 p15).
Responsibilities:
A minimum of three years of oncology experience is required to effectively assess members' educational needs to design educational programs and to meet identified needs. Prior educator experience is preferred. Master's degree in Nursing or other related field is required. Requires current state of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or a Multi-state Nursing License from a participating state in the NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact). Certification within a clinical specialty area required within one year of hire. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days.
