Job Description
Overview: As a Clinical Medical Assistant-Scribe: The Medical Assistant, in support of the physician or mid-level provider will assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of patient care in the office. He/she will be required to coordinate the care with other PH DuBois services, or outside health care providers. The Medical Assistant will serve as a liaison between the physician, the mid-level provider and all other health care providers.

Responsibilities:
  • Complies with DRMC policies and procedures, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state or local law and regulations

Observe patient presenting themselves for registration by asking questions and noting physical signs for serious medical and/or psychiatric problems which may require immediate medical attention.
Interviews patients, measures vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, and records information on patients' charts using age appropriate procedures.
Compile and record patient medical history, problem list, medications and other pertinent data for providers.
Communicating pertinent information to providers, supervisors and coworkers to ensure patient throughput.
Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
Drapes patients with covering and positions instruments and equipment. Hands instruments and materials to doctor as directed.
Performs EKG’s by attaching and connecting electrodes and monitoring for abnormal patterns and keying information into machine.
Records information such as Physicians' orders and instructions, dietary requirements, and medication information, on patient charts and medical records.
Schedules test and procedures by telephone or fax with appropriate departments as directed by the physician.
Collects payment from patient and secures it until it can be delivered to DRMC Business Office.
Inventories and orders medical supplies and materials.
Maintains through knowledge of basic office procedure, equipment, and policies.
Copies medical records, completes insurance forms and reports, and handles all internal and external communications and correspondence.
Files charts using numerical and color coding system.
Keys data into computer to maintain office and patient records.
SCRIBE SPECIFIC DUTIES

Record details of chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, past medical history, social history, family medical history, disease risk factors, medications and allergies.
Record details of physical exam including pertinent positives and negatives, noted abnormalities and patient general condition.
Enter orders as desired by medical provider.
Assist in discharge of patient from practice including instructions, orders, and prescriptions
Other duties as directed.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Completion of a Clinical Medical Assistant program OR Completion of a Medical Assistant program with 2 years hands on experience performing clinical duties required
  • Two years experience in a Physician Office preferred
  • Healthcare Provider CPR Certification within the first year of hire required
