The claim owner will be responsible for investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and settling Personal Lines Liability Property Damage claims (non-injury) under moderate supervision. This includes investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and settling personal lines claims. Completes review of policy coverage, incident details, determines liability, sets/adjusts reserves, estimates for damages, and negotiates settlements. The candidate must be able to independently handle and establish a plan of action for coverage issues, multiple claimant exposures (2+), service and manage policyholder and Agent concerns, and manage internal and external resources appropriately. In addition to handling liability claims, this candidate may be responsible for handling other homeowner specialty coverages and team problem solving through continuous improvement initiatives. May assist with the training, onboarding, and mentoring of new hires.
In this role, you will:
- Manages, investigates, and resolves attorney represented and unrepresented Liability Property Damage claims (non-injury). Investigates and evaluates coverage, liability, damages, and settles claims within prescribed authority levels.
- Communicates with policyholders, witnesses, and claimants to gather information regarding claims, refers tasks to auxiliary resources as necessary, and sets plan as to proper course of action. Responds to various written and telephone inquiries including status reports.
- Responsible for review, response, and investigation of subrogation demands directly with the third-party carrier.
- Review, refer, and may be required to prepare response for Arbitration.
- Write appraisals for dwelling repairs, contents repair or replacement, and other property damage losses based on information collected.
- Confirms or denies coverage and liability and advises policyholders, agents, and claimants as to proper course of action. Identifies suspicious losses. Recommends referral to SIU where appropriate and may assist SIU in their investigation and disposition of the claim.
- Accountable for security of financial processing of claims, as well as security information contained in claims files.
- Makes effective use of loss management techniques. Negotiates settlements with attorneys, claimants, third-party carriers, and/or co-defendants. Arranges for expert inspections involving third party or potential fraud actions as needed.
- Responsible for managing the practices and billing activities of outside and in-house counsel
- Updates files and provides comprehensive reports as required.
- Strong competency of legal liability, general insurance policy coverage and State Tort Law.
- Strong computer skills with the ability to work with multi-faceted systems, and analytical skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, interpersonal, negotiation and investigative skills required.
- Demonstrated understanding of homeowner property damage, building construction principles and/or building estimating.
- Proven ability to provide exceptional customer service experience.
- Effective negotiation skills.
- Knowledge of coverages provided within various homeowner policies – Home, Condo, Renter's, and Landlord policies.
- Ability to manage workload while exhibiting good judgment effectively and independently.
- Strong competency of legal liability, general insurance policy coverage and State Tort Law.
- The capabilities, skills and knowledge required is normally acquired through a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and 6-12 months of directly related experience.
- Ability to obtain proper licensing as required.
