Job Description

The Child Development Supervisor provides overall management of the Children’s Development Program including behavioral intervention, client services and program development. This position includes provision of services to meet daycare licensing requirements.

Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of children’s daily activities.
  • Create enhanced child programming to facilitate healthy childhood development.
  • Facilitate a team environment that includes cross functional training for Child Development staff.
  • Ensure open communication and problem solving occurs with the clinical staff regarding child and parenting issues.
  • Ensure adherence to local daycare licensing requirements and standards.

Essential Job Duties:

Program and Personnel Supervision, Monitoring, and Oversight

  • Recruiting and supervising all child development staff.
  • Provide for on-going program monitoring to include Child Development staff scheduling and facilitation of regular meetings.
  • Responsible for, scheduling, and conducting performance evaluations for all Child Development staff in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Supervise the maintenance of all program supplies and keeps records for accurate accounting and recordkeeping purposes.
  • Accurately record statistical data, prepare quarterly reports to meet agency and funding source requirements, and submit to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Prepare Child Development materials for grant proposals.
  • Participate in all regularly scheduled staff meetings, staffing/case reviews, consultations, in-service training, and other meetings as assigned by Program Manager.
  • Provide Child Development billing to finance.
  • Identify and conduct ongoing development training for staff

Clinical Services and Case Management

  • Provide child assessment and screening, individual and group parenting skills counseling, advocacy and support for all children at Stepping Stones.
  • Maintain licensing files for each child.

Community Relations

  • Work closely with school counselors regarding any academic or behavioral problems of school age children residing at Stepping Stones.
  • Maintain open working relationship and communication with Office of Children’s Services
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with strategic partners (Rural CAP, Alaska Cares, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Abilities

Qualifications:

  • BA degree in Elementary Education or related field required.
  • Chemical Dependency Counselor I / CDCI certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Three (3) years professional experience in an early childhood program providing direct services to children required.
  • Three (3) years supervisory and management experience in an early childhood program required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child development, birth through adolescence.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues affecting children of parents who abuse alcohol and other drugs or parents who are mentally ill and experiencing an addiction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of developmental screenings and assessments for children.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to meet time deadlines.
  • Experience maintaining agency and client confidentiality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with Windows and Microsoft office software.
  • Ability to work with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Current TB test, physical, and CPR/First Aid Certification required.
  • Current Alaska Drivers’ License and good driving record required.
