The Chief Ultrasound Technologist oversees ultrasound technologists and maintains the technical aspects of ultrasound services. This employee acts as a liaison between technologists, physicians, and area support staff. The Chief Ultrasound Technologist suggests equipment modifications, evaluates accuracy and quality of ultrasound images, and performs the duties of an ultrasound technologist.
Performs ultrasound and vascular procedures at a level that requires no supervision of technical detail.
Exercises independent judgment with ingenuity, initiative, and a complete understanding of anatomy, physiology, vascular pathology, and Doppler principles.
Supervises ultrasound and imaging services, including performance or supervision of tests, distribution of test results, and daily management of assigned personnel.
Directs daily administrative duties ensuring budgetary, policy, and performance compliance. Assures efficient workflow of the section to achieve the highest quality care.
Uses the designated Protected Health Information (PHI) systems to perform their functions. Adheres to PHI “minimum necessary” compliance standards at all times.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Associate degree in relevant field
Certification and Licensing:
Certification in relevant specialty or field
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.

- Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

Department Specific Functions
We are looking to hire a Chief Sonographer with a strong background in Obstetrics and Maternal Fetal Medicine. This role will supervise a team of 12 Sonographers across 6 sites and work closely with our Nurse Manager, Practice Manager, and Ultrasound Medical Director.
Responsibilities:
- Explains procedures to the patient prior to the commencement of the testing and provides patient education related to medical ultrasound.
- Ensures the appropriate consent and/or declinations are obtained.
- Conducts ultrasonic diagnostic procedures and records anatomical, pathological and/or physiological data for interpretation by a physician.
- Assists physician during invasive procedures requiring ultrasound guidance.
- Notify Patient Access/Practice Manager of additional services performed which require authorization.
- Maintains proper operation of the ultrasound equipment. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate corrective action. Coordinates the required maintenance as necessary.
- Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies.
- Maintain archives/records scans.
- Oversees and coordinates the ultrasound schedule.
- Ensures compliance with AIUM ultrasound guidelines.
- Responsible for orienting new sonographers to practice.
- Participate in interview process of new employees.
- Participates in the annual reviews for sonographers at site.
- Maintains effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
- Acts in a non-directive, non-judgmental manner, recognizing an individual’s religious, ethical, and moral opinions/beliefs.
- Recognizes ethical, legal and professional issues inherent in providing care to pregnant women.
- Participates in staff development, in-service workshops and educational activities.
- Performs other assigned duties as directed.
Qualifications:
- Must have minimum of 5 years experience working as OBGYN/MFM sonographer
- Must have 3+ years of supervisory/managerial experience
- Must have ARDMS certificate.
- Must have AIUM certification.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have excellent communication and leadership skills.
