The ideal Chief Operating Officer for Fenway Health will bring a track record of designing and overseeing operational systems to enable effective, efficient delivery of ambulatory medical, behavioral health, dental, and optometry services, as well as biomedical, epidemiologic, and population health research and an array of public health services and programs. This individual will have successfully worked with clinicians from multiple disciplines to structure patient-centered team-based care delivery systems. The COO will be strategically astute and experienced at developing and executing innovative strategies to optimize operational efficiencies while maintaining the best results. They will also have a background in operational and strategic leadership with strong emotional intelligence, communication and relationship development skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work in collaboration with the executive team to drive the execution of Fenway Health’s strategic goals, guiding the overall implementation of plans across the organization in partnership with the executive team.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Clinical Officer and Chief Financial Officer to optimize our team-based care delivery models, leveraging our human capital, other assets, and physical space to deliver on our mission.
  • Develop and implement annual capital investment plans to secure and maintain space and equipment necessary to deliver on our mission.
  • Work closely with the Chief Financial Officer to identify efficiencies and optimize revenue and expenditures.
  • Develop, communicate, and implement business strategies, plans and procedures; define, measure, and manage comprehensive goals for performance and growth, in context of the Fenway Health’s culture, vision and mission.
  • Apply an intersectional racial equity lens when developing strategies, designing systems, and cultivating culture.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to develop and deliver on the execution of the operational plan, budget, and key performance indicators.
  • Define and direct organizational policies, internal controls, standards, and procedures consistent with the goals and culture of the organization.
  • At the request of the CEO, serve as management liaison to the board and board committees; effectively communicate and present operational information at select board of directors and committee meetings.
  • Oversee daily operations of Fenway Health and provide mentorship and support to direct reports and their teams, fostering a team-centered culture that enables employees to maximize their performance and engagement.
  • Oversee retail operations across the organization, including pharmacy, optical, dental, and Boomerangs thrift store operations.
  • Recruit, retain and develop talent at all levels, and provide coaching and mentoring as needed.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE

Comprehensive Healthcare Management

10+ years of leadership experience within a FQHC, large group practice or other organization that includes management of clinical care delivery, preferably in an ambulatory setting. Management experience includes budgetary responsibility and ideally profit-and-loss accountability. People management experience is essential. Experience that fully integrates primary, specialty, behavioral, and community health care is preferred.

Healthcare Delivery Models

Knowledge and understanding of evolving health care delivery and financing trends, including payer models. Experience adapting and innovating to address dynamic environment of population health management and changing trends in health care delivery.

Education / Advanced Degree

Advanced graduate degree is strongly preferred, as is additional training/degree/experience in health care or public health administration. If a clinician, the candidate should be eligible for licensure in Massachusetts.
