ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for all financial matters of the ONE Campaign and its affiliate organizations (collectively referred to as "ONE" or "the organization"). The CFO is a hands-on financial leader responsible for broad oversight and stewardship of the organization while simultaneously serving as a strategic business partner on the leadership team to collaboratively run and further develop scalable systems, structures, and processes to support the overall strategic plan.
The CFO reports to the Chief Operations Officer (COO), works closely with the Board Audit and Finance Committee, and is a member of the global operations leadership team and ONE's senior leadership team. The CFO is creative and adapts well to an evolving environment and thrives in a fast-paced workplace, while leading a finance staff of seven, overseeing the work of ONE's outsourced accounting services provider, and working with operations colleagues in our global affiliate offices in Africa and Europe.
The forward-leaning individual ensures the financial health of the organization through proactive analysis and sound administration of policies and procedures. They provide financial excellence in a global operation, controlling all fiscal activities in numerous countries in an effective and efficient manner.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL
Financial Management and Administration

  • Oversee day-to-day financial management and administration in a fast-paced, global environment, covering all areas of finance such as accounts payable and disbursements, corporate credit card administration, cash receipts, cash flow and forecasting, contracts approval, payroll processing, and general ledger maintenance
  • Lead a global finance team of seven professionals, including 5 direct reports; develop, train, motivate the finance staff; collaborate with Operations Managers in nine affiliate offices
  • Manage the treasury function including cash flow among all entities including ONE's line of credit
  • Work with ONE's COO and third-party investment advisor to monitor ONE's operating, short-, long-term reserves, and ensure compliance with ONE's investment policy statement
  • Manage organization's foreign exchange exposure; work with external broker to analyze and make recommendations to Audit and Finance committee on the execution of foreign exchange policy
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of internal financial controls, and development of and adherence to ONE's global accounting policies and procedures
  • Assess and evaluate business, budget and financial processes and procedures; identify and implement opportunities for improvement; continually assess finance information systems, software packages, and technologies
  • Represent the organization and serve as primary point of contact with financial stakeholders, including The ONE Campaign's and ONE Action's Audit and Finance committees, other group entities' governing bodies, and external auditors, tax preparers, treasury service representatives, and investment advisor
  • Participate in corporate policy development as a member of the senior leadership team

Budgeting and Financial Planning

  • Work with Director of Financial Planning and Analysis on the following:
  • Direct and coordinate preparation and execution of ONE's global annual budget, aligning limited resources with strategic objectives and global annual and department plans
  • Work with budget holders to regularly monitor department and program budgets and adjust expenditures in line with revenue forecasts
  • Present the global annual budget for review by senior management and approval by the Audit and Finance Committee and Boards of Directors
  • Collaborate with the development department to prepare and monitor revenue forecast and accounts receivable collections
  • Work with the development department to develop grant budgets, track spending against and produce reports for grants
  • Develop long-term financial business plans, modeling forecasts

Financial Reporting

  • Oversee preparation of regular, timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for all of ONE's entities; present financial reports to senior management, Boards of Directors and other key stakeholders in a manner that is clear, concise, and allows for timely decision-making
  • Evaluate on a pro-active basis the organization's financial position, issuing monthly reports on cash, revenues, and expenses
  • Oversee annual financial statement audits for The ONE Campaign and its affiliates

Compliance

  • Remain current on regulations, industry trends and practices, and relevant financial reporting laws; ensure ONE operates within full compliance of the laws in the countries in which it works; consult with external auditors, tax preparers, and internal corporate and outside legal counsel on relevant matters
  • Ensure ONE's compliance with IRS rules for 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 organizations, including accounting for cost-sharing arrangements among all related entities
  • Oversee filings of ONE's annual IRS Form 990 and 990-T, with unrelated business income tax considerations; oversee filing of DC Form D-20 and global tax requirements.
  • Support ONE's state charitable registrations

WHAT YOU BRING TO ONE
The successful CFO candidate is an accomplished and resilient leader with at least 10 years of finance experience and at least 5 years' prior senior-level financial leadership experience. The CFO candidate thinks and acts strategically, gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership. They are skilled at leading a finance team comprised of accounting, financial planning and analysis, treasury management, payroll, and nonprofit tax functions, in a complex global nonprofit with multiple funding sources and an affiliate structure with diverse program areas.
The successful CFO candidate has knowledge of the laws, procedures, and regulations relating to non-profit accounting and financial reporting, and in particular those pertaining to U.S. tax-exempt organizations recognized under Sections 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code. The successful candidate is a strong financial professional, skilled, and equipped to provide financial leadership to a $40 million global organization.
Education/Certification

  • Graduate degree or more in finance, business, or a related field, are preferred
  • CPA designation with public accounting experience preferred

Required Experience and Knowledge

  • Solid understanding of accounting, financial reporting under Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, budgeting, modeling, and forecasting, treasury and investments, audit, tax, strategic planning, internal controls, enterprise risk management, data analytics, payroll and accounting systems and multiple currencies and conversion
  • Knowledge of laws, procedures and regulations relating to US tax exempt organizations under Section 501(c)(3) with a related 501(c)(4) affiliate operating under a cost-sharing or other shared services agreements
  • Experience managing the finances of a complex international entity with multiple global locations and foreign exchange matters, highly preferred
  • Tax-exempt reporting requirements, compliance and financial statement auditing activities
  • Long range planning and budgeting with a diversified donor base and multiple currency environment
  • Strong writing and presentation skills with demonstrated success preparing and presenting to Executives and the Board
  • Broad tax and audit knowledge

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Fluency in English required. Proficiency in other languages preferred such as French and German

TRAVEL:
Travel up to 10% international and/or domestic
