Job Description

NVNA and Hospice is the only independent non-profit home health agency serving Boston's South Shore. Founded in 1920, NVNA and Hospice provides the full continuum of care from home health, palliative, and hospice to support patients and families. Covid Vaccine Requirement: NVNA and Hospice requires vaccination for Covid-19 as a condition of employment.
We are looking for an experienced, talented and compassionate Hospice Chaplain for per-diem shifts of approximately 10-20 hours per week. Some weekend availability required. We cover 27 communities across the South Shore. This position requires travel throughout our territory.
The Hospice Chaplain works under the supervision of the Hospice Manager and the Spiritual Care Coordinator to provide the spiritual assessment, counseling and support to patients and families of the Agency by embracing all faith and non-faith perspectives. We strive to meet the spiritual needs of the Agency's hospice patients and their families in accordance with Agency philosophy, mission and standards.
Skills and Abilities:

  • Able to quickly develop rapport with others and recognize their concerns and feelings
  • Able to adapt and interact with people who have different beliefs, values, cultures and backgrounds
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Ability to be a team player and work harmoniously with patients, families, co-workers, management and support staff. Optimize use of resources for patients and families through effective collaboration with other staff members.
  • Ability to be flexible and work effectively under pressure
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Excellent problem-solving, listening, organizational and time management skills
  • Caring and compassionate nature

Education:

  • Degree in Divinity or related field strongly preferred

Experience:

  • Clinical pastoral education and experience required
  • A minimum of 2 years working in hospice required
  • Knowledge of spiritual issues common during illness, death and bereavement
