Job Summary
The Child Life Specialist – Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) is a healthcare professional that serves as the primary point person for AYA programming and related initiatives for patients ages 14-26 years.Experience
- Required: Minimum two years of experience as a Certified Child Life Specialist working with adolescents and young adults in a healthcare setting. Experience facilitating events and support groups.
- Preferred: Three or more years of experience working with adolescents and young adults in a health care setting/hematology oncology experience preferred. Project management experience and/or program development experience. Cancer care knowledge and medical oncology terminology.
Education
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Child Life, Child Development, Human Development, Psychology, or closely related field.
- Preferred: Master’s Degree in Child Life or related field.
Training
- Required: Must have completed a minimum of a 600-hour clinical internship under the direct supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist.
Specialized Skills
- Required: Demonstrates ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients. Excellent customer service, presentation, interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to perform duties independently. Ability to set goals and review with leadership in accordance with best practice standards. Advanced care through development of new ideas and technology. Promote teamwork to achieve CHOC's mission. Innovative, creative, self-motivated, performance-oriented, organized, collaborative and able to multi-task. Able to work within a large organization in a team-oriented manner, with the patient’s health and interests always being top priority. Experience working in a clinical setting including direct patient care.
Licensure
- Required: Child Life Certification through the Association of Child Life Professionals; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
