Job Description
Job Summary: Amentum is seeking a Central Utility Plant Operator for our operations and maintenance team in Richmond, VA. This position works a rotating shift that consists of:7 days on 1st shift:Saturday, Sunday, Monday; 5:00am – 5:15pm Tuesday – Friday, 7:15am – 6:15pm7 days off7 days on 3rd shift:Saturday, Sunday, Monday; 5:00pm – 5:15am Tuesday – Friday, 6:00pm – 5:15am

This position is responsible for operating and maintaining the Central Utility Plant (CUP) equipment and systems for a large research facility.

Essential Functions:
  • Identifies and corrects problems with the CUP equipment such as boilers, chillers, chilled water and condenser pumps, air compressors and cooling towers.
  • Monitors building automation systems to ensure proper operation of facilities equipment. Monitors room temperatures and humidity set points for labs, office and common areas.
  • Performs equipment startup and shutdown procedures, and verifies normal operating conditions.
  • Takes daily chiller and boiler readings. Submits reports as required to meet local and state requirements.
  • Experience working with steam systems (e.g. high pressure steam boilers), centrifugal chillers, air handling units, cooling towers, air compressors, air dryers, heat exchangers, exhaust systems, VAV pneumatic controls, and building automation control systems.
  • Performs water treatment chemical analysis.
  • Maintains/performs Preventative Maintenance schedules and building routes/rounds.
  • Repairs piping systems including pumps, motors, and valves.
  • Troubleshoots electrical control circuits and has the ability to read schematics.
  • Responds and provides service and feedback to the customer while assuring compliance to codes, regulations and industry standards.
  • Complies with all governmental, company, and industrial regulations, codes, and standards, health safety practices, and permit systems.
  • Recommends measures to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.
  • Safely performs functions of the position including following proper company safety guidelines, such as lockout/tagout, confined space, and hot work procedures, and wearing PPE as required.
Minimum Requirements:
  • High School diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
  • Five years of experience as an industrial HVAC or industrial mechanical maintenance technician, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with steam systems (e.g. high pressure steam boilers), centrifugal chillers, air handling units, cooling towers, air compressors, air dryers, heat exchangers, exhaust systems, VAV pneumatic controls, and building automation control systems.
  • Ability to read and understand instructions, repair manuals, specifications, drawings, and schematic diagrams.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Abilty to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Training and experience in building automation system, Metasys.
  • Experience supervising vendors and on-site contractors.
  • Ability to read dials, monitor equipment, and log data.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and following standard operating procedures.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
  • Active Journeyman or Master level license.
Other Attributes:
  • Must be willing to work overtime when required. May be required to work holidays and weekends.
