Responsibilities

Job Summary
The CDI physician advisor (PA), will act as a liaison between the CDI professionals, Coding, and the hospital's Medical Staff to facilitate accurate and complete documentation for coding and abstracting of clinical data, including the capture of severity, and risk of mortality,risk adjustment diagnoses, in addition to accurate DRG assignment. The PA helps facilitate training for the physicians and must demonstrate strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. The PA must be flexible, organized and can address physicians, and customers with tact, discretion and diplomacy. Possess general knowledge of Hospital Information Systems as well as knowledge of computer systems/applications used in CDI. The PA can analyze and prepare data to drive priorities and performance improvement.

Assists with physician engagement by establishing strategies for broader physician understanding of the CDI program and its importance. Coordinates with program leadership to provide a summary of results at physician/medical staff meetings. Engages in one-on-one discussions with physicians needing further buy-in and support by providing specific data and case examples. Supports the organizational Quality goals and objectives through CDI improvements. Coordinates with the CDI team provide clinical documentation education to the medical staff.

Partners with CDI leadership on an approach and plan for physician responses to queries, including physician advisor escalation assistance. Meets regularly with CDSs to understand current issues or unanswered queries. Conducts second-level reviews on cases requiring additional clinical input and perspective. Participates in CDI/Coder team meetings to offer insights and expertise on physician-related aspects of the program.
Qualifications

Education
M.D. or D.O Board Certified Physician Required

Experience
5 years Recent experience in Clinical Practice Required

Licenses and Certifications
MD or DO Board Certification Required
