Category Manager -Transportation Procurement

The Category Manager – Transportation Procurement is the procurement lead within a logistics region in Niagara’s network that is accountable for the freight spend and supplier relationship and transportation performance of that region.
This role will also identify opportunities to reduce ‘Total Cost of Ownership’, provide supply continuity, and deliver on quality and service expectations, supporting the growth of the organization and the business needs.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with the Strategic Sourcing team, giving insights and specific input for the developing of the Procurement Strategy and routing guide for the specific region.
  • Be the Procurement reference for the rest of the business and other parts of organization related to transportation category in the specific region.
  • Development of procurement initiatives and plans for the transportation category, aligned with stakeholders that would reduce our Total Cost of Ownership and improve availability, quality, service and innovation.
  • Building and maintaining long-term relationships with vendors and suppliers for the region.
  • Develop, implement, and manage vendor performance metrics, documents, and reporting as well as running meetings and business reviews as part of the Supplier Relationship Management program.
  • Work with Customer Service, Logistics Operations, Planning and other areas, to optimize service and cost, align business needs and operational execution.
  • Lead the team on the process of load planning and tender of shipments to the carriers.
  • Lead the team in covering and negotiating spot loads, making sure that cost and service are aligned with business needs.
  • Lead the team to execute small and medium sourcing activities (on demand) to cover special requirements of the business and/or address service issues and adjustments of routing guide.
  • Be externally aware of the transportation market trends and industry conditions and how it would affect and influence performance and cost within the region.
  • Obtain data from varied sources to identify and support fact-driven opportunities. Ensure analysis is accurate, comprehensive, and robust.
  • Collaborate across departments during supplier onboarding.
  • Lead the area that is the supplier point of contact within the Niagara’s organization.
  • Collaborate with Accounts Payable to ensure invoices are paid on time.

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • 6 Years – Experience in Procurement or other related field
    • 6 Years – Experience in Position
    • 4 Years – Experience Supervising Employees/ Process
