Job Description

Position Overview & Responsibilities
Career Development & Student Employment Coordinator oversees the execution of tracking career milestones and outcomes as well as a high impact, intentional career student employment experience for Merrimack College students. This position is also the manager for the primary career services CRM (Handshake) and supporting integrations across college systems. These functions are paramount in assessing student career preparation, readiness and outcomes to realize the truest potential of the student.

  • Manage the student employment program, with a focus on increasing students’ skills by creating accessible employment experiences.
  • Support and advise students in relation to obtaining employment, hiring, and college-wide employment expectations; as well as supervisors and departments through all aspects of recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and managing student employees.
  • Mediate conflicts that may arise while adhering to Merrimack College Human Resource policies and guidelines, maintaining professional and confidential competency in dealing with sensitive situations.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure consistency and equity of access to employment.
  • Refine and implement application, hiring, and posting policies to support budgetary requests for student employees.
  • Coordinate student hiring paperwork, intake process in coordination with financial aid and payroll services.
  • Manage communication plans, website, and listservs to support student employment efforts.
  • Serve as the point of contact for all activities that aid in the recruitment and retention of student employees.
  • Develop and implement processes for monitoring student career progress and performance (the 4-year plan), analyze problem areas, and work with the O’Brien Center team to determine solutions.
  • Work across center and college platforms to collect and link various forms of data.
  • Create and maintain various views, reports, and dashboards to share with stakeholders related to student career progress and performance; allowing staff to support students based on their individual progress as well as map out opportunities for increased success and achievement.
  • Support campus-wide first-destination (post-graduation) success survey in collaboration with campus stakeholders (or committee) to provide effective data collection, synthesis, visualization, and dissemination
  • Act as liaison between institutional research, information technology and the registrar’s office.
  • Serve as system manager for O’Brien Center CRM tool (currently Handshake), overseeing all operational functions.
  • Interface with various campus offices to ensure data is seamlessly integrated with enterprise/campus data and related campus data systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree a minimum of 3-5 years previous experience in one or more of the following: student employment, career services, recruiting, student recruitment/retention, and/or human resources.
  • Cultural competence and ability to support students from historically underrepresented and underserved communities
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as relevant to academic success.
  • Thrives in an entrepreneurial atmosphere, has a high degree of personal responsibility, is committed to continuous improvement to ensure the best outcomes, and has an unwavering focus on the students we serve.
  • High level ability to collaborate with faculty, students, administrators, and departments campus-wide.
  • Talent to forge effective working relationships with various departments and groups across campus; work independently and as part of a team; has a collaborative attitude
  • Creative and innovative mindset and the inclination to discover opportunities for doing things differently to more effectively serve
  • Technical aptitude and Demonstrated ability to utilize multiple technology sources including:
  • Microsoft Suite; Google Mail, Calendar, and Drive
  • Working knowledge of CMS/CRM systems related to career services, such as CSO, Symplicity, or Handshake
  • Working knowledge of SIS/CRM such as Slate
