Job Description

I) Job Purpose

The position of Care Specialist I serves to support the daily needs of all persons served by providing auxiliary care and customer service. This entry level position is paramount to the overall wellness and recovery of those in care and facilitates extreme attention to detail and communication with clinical providers and administration. This position requires a range of services including front desk administrative responsibilities up to and including spending the entirety of your time answering phone calls to help facilitate scheduling and logistics for persons served.

II) Essential Functions

  • Maintain the ability to communicate effectively in all situations including crisis scenarios as well as using all modes of communication including verbal, written, & non-verbal.
  • Exercise a high level of attention to detail and organization appropriate to a call center setting.
  • Capable of high-level multi-tasking and quick coordination of services over the phone including appointment scheduling, referrals, support & reassurance, and more.
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt to new platforms and systems as needed including the electronic health record.
  • Coordinate direct care and interventions congruent to agency standards and programmatic parameters including documentation when appropriate.
  • Maintain the ability to assess and determine which care practices best meet ongoing needs for persons served via telephone-based and/or text-based communications.

  • Perform other job duties or responsibilities as requested or assigned.

III) Knowledge of Laws, Regulations, Policies/Procedures, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms.
  • Working knowledge of psychopathology and DSM V classes of major mental illness.
  • Knowledge of the principles of Crisis Intervention.
  • High level of advocacy/arbitration/negotiation/conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to think clearly under pressure and to perform effectively in high stress situations.
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Ability to maintain clear and concise documentation.
  • Ability to organize work independently.
  • Ability to work independently without or with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends and holidays.
  • Attend all necessary meetings at designated time intervals.
  • Attend and maintain all agency required trainings and refresher courses.

IV) Internal & External Customer Service

This position requires extensive internal and external contacts with persons served, family members, significant others, internal staff, external staff, service providers and practitioners, and community partners. The employee accomplishes communication with exceptional written and verbal skills by answering phone calls and emails in a timely fashion as defined by program needs as well as conducting themselves professionally in all interactions.

V) Travel

This position requires transporting clients and driving between locations as an essential function of work. Employees are required to have a license in good standing and be able to be covered by agency liability insurance. If personal vehicle is utilized for work travel, then maintaining personal auto insurance coverage is required.
