What you will do in this role:

The Cardiology Coding Manager is responsible for assisting in the development and evolution of the overall strategy for the Parallon Coding Physician Service Center (PSC). The Coding Manager manages, directs and coordinates the coding activities within the PSC. Responsibilities include management of process and personnel. The Cardiology Coding Manager plans, assigns and directs the PSC coding workflow; actively monitors employee performance and rewards or disciplines accordingly; addresses complaints and resolves problems; and actively oversees and manages production and quality control efforts.

  • Provides direct managerial oversight to Team Lead and Coders in management of inpatient and outpatient coding functions, work queues, work processes, and overall work responsibilities
  • Ensures complete, accurate, timely and consistent coding, while adhering to published coding guidelines and internal policy
  • Coaches and helps develop team members; helps resolve dysfunctional behavior within functional area(s); disciplines and counsel staff as necessary
  • Proactively manages (including corresponding communications and escalation paths) significant issues in coding, status of projects, barriers and successes
  • Responsible for ensuring employee work schedules sufficiently meet those requirements as established by the Parallon Leadership team
  • Works closely with Physician Service Center team members to address issues related to clinical denials
  • Performs quality reviews of the coders or coordinates reviews with PSC Auditing Team Assists in the development of strategy, specific goals, objectives, budgets and performance standards for the PSC operations (as applicable)
  • Performs productivity monitoring and provides timely and consistent feedback to employees and Central Coding Director
  • Prepares coding benchmarking, coding productivity, coding quality, and coding productivity reports for the Central Coding Director, the Parallon Leadership, Practice Leadership, Market/Division leadership and Group leadership

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field required. Equivalent work experience may substitute education requirements.
  • Coding certification through AHIMA or AAPC required
  • Inpatient/outpatient professional fee coding experience required.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in related area with two of these years being healthcare management experience or completion of the Parallon Manager Trainee Program.
  • Experience managing multi-specialty coders strongly preferred.
