The University of Miami Health Systems has an exciting opportunity for a Cardiac Ultrasound Technician at UTower. The Cardiac Ultrasound Tech works with physicians to diagnose and treat diseases or defects of the heart and blood vessels by using the echoes of sound waves to create images. The Cardiac Ultrasound Tech is responsible for performing all cardiac ultrasound procedures at a level that will require no supervision of technical detail. This position requires the employee to perform procedures using independent judgment with ingenuity, initiative, and a complete understanding of anatomy, physiology, vascular pathology and Doppler principles. The sonographer is responsible to ensure that safe, timely and accurate diagnostic procedures and related services are performed in a cost effective manner within the scope of our population, by using the current ultrasound principals to aid the physicians in the diagnosis of adult, and geriatric patients. Support and be active in the department’s PI projects in the department. The PI functions include: identifying areas or processes in need of improvement; developing a plan of action; implementing plan; processing and documenting results. To ensure compliance with prevailing requirements or practices, as well as with changes in JCAHO Standards, OSHA regulations, and/or various state or federal statutes.


The minimum requirements are as follows:

  • High School Diploma or GED education equivalent is required
  • Graduate from accredited Ultrasound Program. College/Vocational/Technical School degreed
  • Current RDMS/ RDCS/RCS or CCI certification required
  • CPR/BLS certification is required
  • Minimum (1) year of cardiac ultrasound work experience in a hospital/clinical setting and or (3) years preferred
  • Any combination of relevant education, work experience, and/or certification will be considered
