The Residential Services Department of the Campus Life Division at Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center (WWRC) is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for all consumers, staff, and visitors at WWRC. Residential Services Department staff are responsible for providing a comfortable learning environment through targeted supports and interventions for residential consumers that maximize the opportunity to succeed at WWRC and as independent citizens. The Campus Life Division provides relevant programs, classes, experiences, and services to enable consumers to achieve successful employment and optimal independence.
We are currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as Campus Life Associate. The incumbent in the position will engage with clients and other rehabilitation team members to create a safe, clean, and supportive residential/recreational experience throughout the entire Campus Life Division environment, promoting positive social, interpersonal and self-management skills. Through on-going residential/recreational environment engagement with Campus Life Associates, each client will be given the opportunity to explore, learn, and practice needed skills to enhance relevant personal independence to promote vocational success.
Duties will include developing, implementing and evaluating residential programs for individual clients and for small and large groups, based on needs and interests, including individualized room care intervention consistent with policies and procedures; provides consistent feedback to, the respective Rehabilitation Team on client progress and opportunities to facilitate the clients’ physical, mental, social and emotional well-being in the rehabilitation process; takes part in identifying, planning, and facilitating required safety drill(s)/sweeps/tasks for the on-going safety and security of the residential environment; attend, participate and consult in staff committee, treatment team and interdisciplinary team meetings as needed and collaborates with other center departments to implement positive residential programming.
Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
Knowledge – Demonstrated knowledge of theory and techniques utilized in behavior modification, crisis intervention and problem solving; knowledge of confidentiality and boundary issues; knowledge of safety awareness in a residential/dormitory setting; knowledge of the recreation hall environment for coverage as needed.
Skill / Ability – Demonstrated skill in assessing individual and group needs and ability to plan and implement programs to meet those needs; strong oral and written communication skills; strong organization/time management skills; basic computer skills; ability to relate positively to people with disabilities and knowledge of disabilities served; ability to foster a safe, clean and supportive environment promoting positive social, interpersonal and self-management skills encouraging opportunities to learn needed skills to promote and enhance personal independence; ability to assess environmental factors and safety hazards while conducting day to day operations and ability to foster the interdisciplinary team approach
Valid VA Driver’s License required
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in health and human service related field working with persons with disabilities, particularly in a therapeutic residential and/or recreational setting. Recreational education (or equivalent experience) and/or certification(s) such as: CTRS, Fitness Instruction Certification, Lifeguarding, Coaching (team or individual)
Special Requirements
This has been designated a sensitive position under Va. Code § 2.2-1201.1. A fingerprint-based criminal history check will be required of the finalist candidate.
This position is designated to provide first aid, CPR and AED only as a collateral duty to routine work assignments, responding solely to injuries resulting from workplace incidents, generally at the location where the incident occurred, until emergency personnel arrive on the scene. The incumbent understands that pre-exposure hepatitis B vaccination is not being provided, but that post-exposure hepatitis B vaccination will be provided and s/he will complete annual blood borne pathogens training in accordance with the OSHA standard.
