Position Summary: The Assistant Summer Camp Manager will oversee all camp activities, programming, campers, and staff for summer resident camp in coordination with and direction of the Camp Manager. The Assistant Summer Camp Manager facilitates harmonious camp operations by facilitating community building within the camper group, as well as within the greater camp organization.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure the safety of all campers during their stay at Girl Scouts of Central Texas camps by following all policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Ensures camp is providing quality programming and that camp experience for campers and staff is congruent with Girl Scout objectives, American Camp Association regulations, health Department regulations, and Safety Activity Checkpoints.
- Ensures that campers and staff follow health and safety standards set by the organizations listed above.
- Coordinates with Camp Manager on all camp activities including staff management, scheduling, programming, and food service.
- Observing camper behavior, assessing its appropriateness, enforcing appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and applying appropriate behavior-management techniques.
- Overseeing the training and growth of staff, giving feedback and corrections as needed.
- Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.
- Assumes leadership of camp when or if Camp Manager is off site.
- Collection and maintenance of records of camper forms and documents from check in
- Collection and organization of daily and weekly paperwork from staff.
- Maintaining cohesive camp environment through effective communication skills with management team, unit staff, and Camp Manager.
- Assisting in the approval of staff and camp activity schedules.
- Ensure work areas and activities are safe and meet the requirements of the American Camp Association, Texas State Health Department, and GSCTX.
- Provide quality guest service that resolves concerns in a timely manner.
- Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned in all areas of camp including participation in camper activities such as (but not limited to): cook out, check in, check out, all camp activities, themed days or meals, and duties at meals.
- Assisting with daily, weekly, and end of season camp cleaning responsibilities.
- Promote and support Girl Scout program philosophies of the GSUSA & GSCTX in a positive manner to the public and co-workers.
- Must be at least 21 years of age by June 1, 2021.
- Meet qualifications for all Safety Activity Checkpoints.
- Adheres to Personnel Policies for Summer Camp Staff.
- Experience as a supervisor, group leader, camper, or teacher.
- Experience organizing, supervising, and managing personnel.
- Training in Girl Scout outdoor programs, camp counseling, leadership, and training techniques.
- First aid training is preferred.
- Ability to communicate and work with and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.
- Ability to supervise multiple staff and activities continuously.
- Knowledge of Girl Scout culture and Girl Scout Camp preferred.
- Membership in GSUSA is preferred.
- Must reside on camp.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending and twisting upper body.
- Capable of lifting up to 50lbs.
- Capable of viewing computer monitor for long periods.
- Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
- Continuous outdoor activity and exposure to weather.
- Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours with limited equipment and facilities, with daily exposure to sun, heat, and insects.
OTHER WORKING CONDITIONS
- Continuous requirement for professional demeanor and appropriate camp attire at all times.
- A criminal background check is required.
- Continuous work as a team member and ability to work independently with some supervision.
- Frequent work under stress and under pressure of deadlines with overlapping projects.
- Continuous ability to work well with others.
- Continuous ability to follow and enforce all Health & Safety guidelines.
