The company has an opening for a CAD/CAM Engineering Technician who will play an integral role in the manufacturing process by creating 3D CAD models from blueprints and technical drawings, and then generating CAM programs for CNC machining to produce metal doors and frames.

Position Summary:
The CAD/CAM Engineering Technician will produce clear and accurate drawings for manufacturing doors and frames based on customer specifications and within customer order deadlines. Primary responsibilities include creating CAD drawings, CAM programming for CNC equipment, dimensional checking, and nesting layouts of flat patterns.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Use SolidWorks CAD software to create detailed drawings from cut sheets, blueprints, sketches, scanned images, and customer supplied data and documents.
2. Utilize knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics and materials to complete CAD drawings and CNC programming.
3. Work closely with order detailers and shop personnel to ensure that the CAD drawings produced convey the correct information.
4. Ensure CAD drawings are complete, accurate, timely and in compliance with standards.
5. Provide measurements, dimensions and notes on materials needed to complete orders.
6. Generate CAM programs from CAD drawings.
7. Review paperwork to identify whether products produced are intended to be included in Underwriter’s Laboratory (UL) or Intertek Warnock-Hersey (WH) certified production.
8. Perform assigned work to production and time standards.
9. Make routine decisions and use problem solving to resolve basic manufacturing issues.
10. Maintain notes, design calculations, drawings, design parameters and other documentation for future reference.
11. Follow procedures for CAD data management and maintain an organized file system for retrieving production drawings.
12. Consult with the Director of Engineering on special design requests, lead times and unique production requirements.
13. Other duties as assigned by management.
Competencies:
1. Computer literate with experience in Microsoft Office.
2. Proficiency with SolidWorks.
3. Understanding of basic drafting/design concepts and engineering terminology.
4. Experience with CAD/CAM machine programming software preferred.
5. Familiarity with manual and CNC production machines to include shop fabrication methods.
6. Competency in shop math and the use of precision measuring tools.
7. Ability to read and understand shop cut sheets and other shop drawing aids.
8. Possess good mechanical aptitude.
Education and Experience Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or GED required, Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
2. Experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
3. One year of technical trade school in CAD, drafting or related field, or minimum one year of practical experience in CAD/CAM programming software required.
4. Basic SolidWorks experience required; SolidWorks sheet metal experience preferred.
5. CAM experience preferred.
6. CNC production machinist experience a plus.
7. Technical certification in DHI required to be completed within 3 months of hire.
8. Training in Lean Manufacturing techniques preferred.
