ABOUT THE ROLE:

Under limited supervision, the Buyer/Planner performs materials management functions such as planning, scheduling and purchasing raw materials for organization's products in compliance with customer requirements, company policies, procedures and objectives using Material Requisition Planning (MRP) systems. The successful candidate will facilitate efforts of other functional groups and suppliers in collaboration of achieving committed ship dates and other company metrics, including locating potential suppliers, negotiating prices and terms, and make arrangements for purchases. They will escalate purchase orders over $50k to management for approval. They will also work with non-direct product components for company's product offering.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Review and analyze Material Requisition Planning (MRP) and Distribution Requisition Planning (DRP) requests within the company's enterprise software system (JDE) to determine replenishments of raw material or purchased finished goods.
  • Ensure continuity of material supply to manufacturing production optimizing inventory levels by ensuring proper material lead times to order materials.
  • Partners with Planning, Manufacturing, Engineering and Product Development for opportunities related to material inventory and quality issues, including Finance/Accounting to resolve Accounts Payable matters.
  • Issues and manages work orders for outside processing operations.
  • Oversees supplier management for assigned commodities including reviewing vendor performance based on price, quality and service and addressing any issues with vendors. Escalates concerns to senior management.
  • Reviews, monitors and controls cost aspects of materials under area of responsibility, including reviewing purchase price variance, bi-annual raw material standard costs and determining opportunities to optimize cost-reduction of materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Business Administration and 2 years' experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of materials management concepts, principals and Material Requisition Planning models in a demand-based manufacturing environment.
  • Read and comprehend moderately complex instructions, correspondence and electronic emails. Write reports, and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, vendors, and employees across a cross-functional matrix.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and enterprise material planning software such as JD Edwards.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, high-level of accuracy and strong follow through.
  • Working experience in negotiating contracts and developing viable inventory management strategies and systems, including understanding terms and conditions within contracts.
  • Ability to prioritize, resolve conflict and achieve results in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
