Business Development Manager

We are looking for a highly experienced and energetic business development professional based out of our Cedar Rapids office who has a proven record of success bringing in new business and exceeding customer expectations. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be self-motivated and goal-oriented, and take a more organized and thoughtful approach to meeting up with customer needs and winning opportunities to work with them. The Business Development Manager will be focused on identifying, qualifying, capturing, and winning new business in the Industrial and Commercial Construction industry with private and public client groups in the Midwest primarily. This position will be expected to establish the strategies and business model to help Modern penetrate targeted markets and clients. He/she will accomplish this by working with others to refine the marketing strategies and client strategy plans to properly position the company relative to the competition, to win work from target clients, to expand our client base, and to lead a cross-functional team to grow the business. A key metric for success will be year-over-year growth in sales. In addition to the sales responsibilities, once projects are won, this position will remain engaged in key customer relationships and communications throughout the life of a project.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of the Industrial and Commercial Construction industry through regular customer-facing meetings and engagements
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities/sales pipeline in the marketplace through continuous professional contact and relationships with existing and/or new clients and determine and/or assist in the determination of client long-range needs for services and/or capital expenditures
  • Individually, and in coordination with Marketing, determine the market demand for products and services including identifying potential new target markets
  • Maintain close relationships with clients throughout the construction process
  • Maintain client relationships after a project is completed through regular check-ins
  • Coordinate input from project management, engineering, construction, estimating, planning, and other appropriate departments as required
  • Represent Modern Companies with various organizations as needed to enhance relationships

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Mechanical Engineering and/or related field preferred
  • Ten (10) plus years of experience developing new business with a proven track record of success in meeting revenue targets
  • Five (5) plus years of experience with industrial and commercial construction projects
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Highly tenacious, self-motivated and goal driven; responsive and quick thinking; able to adapt quickly to changes in direction or client needs
  • Patience and perseverance and ability to manage long sales cycles
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
  • Willingness to travel up to 60% of the time to team meetings, client consultations, on-site walkthroughs, etc.
  • Willingness to work evenings as necessary to meet with clients, project teams and/or vendors
