Business Development Manager - Biotech Media Industry

Position Summary:

We are looking for a business development manager in the biotech and pharmaceutical industry to help refine our sales process and manage both inbound and outbound sales efforts for our flagship publication for drug discovery professionals. This role will work closely with the CEO and operational and marketing staff to refine and develop sales process, nurture relationships with key individuals in the biotech and pharmaceutical industry and achieve sales goals for sponsorships and partnerships. This role will be responsible for corporate subscriptions, direct ad sales, sponsorships, and events, and may lead to an opportunity to build a business development team as the company grows.

You will be the front of the company and will have the dedication to create and apply an effective sales strategy. The goal is to drive sustainable financial growth through boosting sales and forging strong relationships with clients.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Refine and iterate on existing sales processes and improving the sales funnels, focusing on data-driven decisions
  • Managing and growing our existing sponsorship and partnership accounts, focusing on building long term relationships instead of one-time sales
  • Managing the life cycle of inbound and outbound leaders, including qualifying the leader, leading sales calls, closing deals, and maintaining the relationship long term
  • Create, plan, and deliver presentations about our relevant products to prospects with credibility and an a clear understanding of how drug discovery works in the biotech and pharmaceutical industry
  • Track all sales activities in our CRM (we use HubSpot) and keep current by updating account information regularly
  • Take feedback received from interactions with clients to draft customer pain point reports that we can analyze internally, along with regularly tracking and reporting on key KPIs
  • Create and execute sales activities to keep a continual flow of prospects in a well-developed pipeline
  • Coordinate with others in relevant departments such as marketing, operations, tech, and content to optimize the sales efforts

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of relevant business development experience with some familiarity with the biotech/pharmaceutical industry and/or media
  • 4+ years of general sales experience, preferably working as part of a sales team
  • Proven ability to meet and exceed business development goals
  • Proven track record of successfully managing customer relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to pick up new fields of expertise quickly and work with agility in a growth environment
  • A comfort with new technologies and platforms and eagerness to apply new best practices to a growing organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities with both technical and nontechnical audiences, as well as decision-making, leadership, and analytical skills, ability to make reasoned decisions, contribute to and lead cross-functional teams, and excellent organizational skills
  • This is a fully remote position based in the United States. Location in US Pacific or Mountain time zones is preferred but not required. Some travel may be required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in pharmacology, chemistry, biology, or relevant life science, with familiarity with the workings of the pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience in media sponsorships or media marketing partnerships
  • Experience with HubSpot
