JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Office of Research Information Systems (ORIS) seeks a Business Analyst. This position will be part of a dynamic scrum team which designs, develops and supports process solutions and homegrown and vended applications used by Penn State researchers to comply with federal regulation, state law and institutional policy in the conduct of their research. The solutions supported by ORIS include those which assist the University and its research ers in complying with financial research requirements (e.g., grants, proposals, awards) and non-financial research requirements (e.g., use of human participants, animals, biohazardous materials, conflicts of interest).
Business A nalysts within ORIS regularly work with a wide range of users including, but not limited to:
- researchers and research coordinators
- compliance staff
- compliance committee members
- vendors
- external consultants
- collaborating institution
- faculty
- staff
- executives
Analysts s pend most of their time working side-by-side with Business Analysts, Software Engineers/Developers on the team , stakeholders and subject matter experts in a translation al role to determine the best way to design new and improve d processes and system solutions.
Day-to-day tasks typically include:
- process analysis
- process mapping and re-engineering
- gap s analysis
- facilitation

- test case writing
- testing solution design
- documentation
- gathering and analyzing metrics
- system support
A nalysts at ORIS frequently facilitat e meetings, create and deliver present ations and work with groups and committees to identify needs and to define and implement solutions . Key constituents include staff within the Office fo r Research Protections (ORP) , Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) , Office of Research Affairs (ORA) , the compliance offices at the College of Medicine and various compliance offices across the University.

Candidates with r esearch administration content expertise, technical backgrounds and/or business analysis experience are preferred, but training in one or more of those areas can be provided for the right candidate. Although programming experience is not directly required for this position, the position is highly technically oriented and experience and comfort with electronic management systems is critical . Proficiency with Scrum and Agile software development methodology, Microsoft Office, Visio, project management and Atlassian suite tools are not required but highly preferred . Frequent travel to Penn State Hershey and other Penn State campuses has historically been required and may be required again. Due to Covid-19, all work is currently remote and potentially will be for the foreseeable future.
Typically requires a bachelor’s degree or higher plus four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR).
