GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Bhutanese Outreach Worker plays a central role in ensuring that SEAMAAC fulfills its mission. The

Bhutanese Outreach Worker’s primary responsibilities are to provide community outreach about programs and services, group education on program topics, interpretation/translation, and case management support with individuals and families in Philadelphia’s Bhutanese refugee communities.

Currently this position is primarily focused on our COVID-19 Hunger Relief Program, Elders wellness services, and case management including employment assistance, navigating community resources, voter registration, naturalization, domestic violence, public benefits, and health insurance. During COVID-19, all job duties are subject to change, and there is a possibility that some/all work will be done remotely.

Qualification Requirements:

? Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Minimum of a high school education if combined with extensive social service experience working in Bhutanese refugee communities.

? Spoken fluency in English and Nepali is required; ability to do written translation is preferred.

? Minimum one year of social service or outreach experience required (may be a year of volunteer work).

Competencies:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

? Experience working with community health, social services, and family dynamics. Passion and experience supporting families with issues such as civic engagement, employment, education, domestic violence, health and health care access, and women’s health preferred.

? In-depth knowledge of and relationships within the Bhutanese immigrant and refugee communities in Philadelphia

? Computer skills including online databases, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

? Ability to complete data entry and write client case notes

? Skills in discussing sensitive topics in a culturally and linguistically competent manner with individuals and small groups

? Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

? Counseling skills, and skills in responding to high stress and crisis management situations

? High emotional intelligence as defined by the ability to empathize, people skills, motivation, self- regulation, and self-awareness

? Ability to manage time, maintain appropriate boundaries, and prioritize tasks

? Ability to work with diverse staff as well as a strong commitment to supporting the collective efforts of the team in accomplishing program objectives and goals.

? Understanding and sensitivity to issues of race, class, nationality, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, and disability

? A strong passion and a clear vision for delivering high impact services to immigrant and refugee populations and other communities of color

? Ability to handle a heavy workload, exercise high level of discretion, maintain confidentiality, handle multiple priorities, and use sound judgment

? Ability to work independently while observing and complying with all standards of the supervisory structure of the organization

? Ability to accurately represent SEAMAAC in Philadelphia’s Bhutanese immigrant and refugee communities

? Additional language skills are desirable.

Duties/Responsibilities/Expectations:

? Conduct outreach to develop a Bhutanese community client base and increase awareness of
SEAMAAC’s programs and community resources. These methods include but are not limited to: interpreting/translating documents, posting and distributing flyers, posting on social media, making phone class, and attending community events (virtual and/or in-person)

? Plan and facilitate community education on program topics

? Provide case management services to clients within the guidelines of the assigned program(s).

? Complete data entry, client intake, and case notes according to department and funder guidelines

? Attend supervision meetings, staff meetings and in-services/professional development trainings

? Actively participate in organization-wide work efforts and events and a minimum of 5 events per calendar year.

? Provide translation/interpretation

? Other duties may be assigned from time to time

Salary and Benefits:

Hours: Approximately 20-24 hours/week if working remotely. Up to 40 hours/week are available if working in-person or hybrid position. Hours are primarily during regular business hours, with expectations of flexing to accommodate community activities occasionally during evenings and a minimum of five (5) weekend assignments per calendar year.

Salary: $15-$17/hour, depending on qualifications and experience

Benefits: A part-time position offers paid sick leave and holidays. A full-time position includes health insurance, paid vacation, and other benefits.
