We are a small team of multidisciplinary creatives working to support a full-service communications firm working with government, nonprofit, and private clients. We work on challenging projects that impact the daily lives of residents across the country, delivering creative work that engages, informs, and motivates. As a visual designer you will play a supporting role on a variety of projects ranging from designing websites and social media campaigns to creating maps and infographics. Creative skills and the ability to execute, produce, and deliver quality design work are a must. We are looking for a designer with a strong foundation in design practices, a working knowledge of HTML and CSS, an excellent grasp of typography and layout, and advanced verbal and visual communication skills. You understand the web and information architecture and have built websites using WordPress, Webflow, or a similar CMS platform. You have a keen eye for detail and can demonstrate how your solutions track back to client goals, audience needs, and the creative brief. You respond to creative feedback and criticism with new ideas and solutions, and collaborate well with other designers, project managers, and other collaborators.
What You NeedA passion for design and learning new techniques and approaches
A strong portfolio demonstrating impressive design, typography, and layout skills
Experience with HTML, CSS, and javascript, preferably developing websites using Webflow or WordPress
Experience working within existing brand guidelines as well as developing new branding guidelines
Strong communication skills and a willingness to ask questions
Ability to stay calm and positive while working with tight deadlines
Ability to easily switch gears between projects while staying organized and on track
Work collaboratively with creative director/design lead to create beautiful and effective designs for print and web
Visualize and verbalize your ideas to the team and client
Design infographics, maps, icons, illustrations, and other elements for public-facing campaigns and other project needs
Manage multiple projects on time and within budget
Work with digital team to create responsive, uniquely branded web sites using Webflow or WordPress custom themes (with minimal support from web developer team)
Review work to ensure high, error-free standards for all deliverables and communications
Work with project managers to meet project goals, receive client feedback, and deliver projects
Take smart risks and champion new ideas
Bachelors of Arts Degree in communications, public relations, public affairs, political science, public policy, environmental science, or related field or commensurate experience
A minimum of two years related office/administrative experience
Advanced Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop skills
Basic HTML, CSS, and javascript skills
Working knowledge of digital products and how websites are built
Advanced Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel skills
Ability to translate complex information into visual communication
Ability to multitask and manage multiple deadlines
Strong attention to detail
Superior commitment to quality
Multilingual highly desired
Strong writing skills for marketing or web a plus
Knowledge of ESRI or ARC GIS mapping a plus
Fluency in languages other than English a plus
Portfolio submittal required with all applications.
