UW Medical Center-Montlake's Food & Nutrition Services has an outstanding opportunity for a temporary/hourly BARISTA. The Barista aims to improve the health of the community by linking evidence-based nutrition to the healthy foods we serve and to the education we provide staff, patients and the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide excellent, respectful customer service to a diverse customer base, in a medical setting.
  • Have knowledge of and achieve departmental goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Have knowledge of and adhere to Medical Center and departmental safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Train new or unskilled employees in the preparation and service of espresso beverages and food items; cleaning and stocking duties and departmental procedures.
  • Operate all espresso and/or food service equipment and machinery.
  • Clean and sanitize all equipment, utensils, and surfaces used in the preparation and service of beverage and food items. Monitor equipment and report any failures to supervisor.
  • Prepare and serve espresso and other beverages. Prepare and serve food items.
  • Stock supplies necessary for preparation and service of beverages and food items.
  • Display food and espresso items in attractive manner.
  • Operate cash register. Handle cash, check and charge payments for beverage and food items in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. Prepare beginning banks, drops, and balance registers in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Monitor inventory and supply levels. Inform supervisor when items are low and need to be replenished.
  • May delegate pre-assigned tasks to work study students and temporary hourly staff.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds.
  • Willingness to wear uniform.

    REQUIREMENTS
    Possession of, or eligible to obtain a Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment.

    DESIRED
  • One year experience as a Food Service Worker, or equivalent education/experience
  • Ability to read and correctly interpret patient meal ticket
  • Ability to stand for 8 hours and to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to maintain safety and sanitation standards
  • Actively contribute to continuous quality improvement process to improve quality of services provided to our customers and co-workers
  • Demonstrate team skills; works cooperatively with peers
  • Promote positive customer relations
